You don't want to go to big in my opinion, remember your "goal" is to wear the shit out of them before you wash them. you might wear them 200 times before you wash them.
Might be your goal, but wearing jeans 200 times/days without washing isn't everybody's goal.
Wearing jeans without washig them is a hype like Chris stated…

I love how since everyone watched the kiya " the denim icon" denim myths, how much their opinion has changed. So you're telling me, had Max power washed his over dyed 634 everytime they got a little dirty that they would still have such sick fades.
Chris, skimmed through your pics, but never once saw a good fade pic. I'll wear my pants without washing them and you guys can wash yours to much and we will see whos looks better.

We talk about a Iron Heart Product. They all look good, washed or not. Do it your way, but please don´t see fades as a competition or something like that. You should feel good in your clothes, if you feel good in smelly and dirty jeans, that´s cool for you. Like I said before, I don´t wash my jeans every week, but I wash them when they are dirty or smell very bad.

Yep - and I've never had any of my jeans smell bad… I just wash 'm cause they do get dirty after a couple of months... And because I feel like I "should" do it... That's why I'm not doing it for a year... I will need a objective jury to come sniff my jeans in June 2014 to see if I'm right about them not smelling bad...

Haven't washed my 634s yet. They are so thick an pliant that getting creases to set in sharply is a challenge. So I will wait a little on them unless they get funky or dirty.
-
And this is only for jeans!!!!! You wanna wear your shirts for months on end that's your business, Just don't stand next to me:) I can't go much longer than a couple weeks without washing a shirt. I wore my wabash western for about two weeks, had to wash it Sunday after it had umpteen beers spilled on it Saturday night!!

Kiya is also a big advocate for unsanforized denim which counts among the minority for the IH line. Basically he thinks that it's less necessary to wait to wash unsanforized denim than sanforized for dramatic high contrast fades because the material conforms to your body and stays conformed.
For heavy denim that's supposed to be durable, I totally agree with Haraki's approach though.

….but please don´t see fades as a competition or something like that.....
Please don't tell that Gavin…you will crush his livework
-
But he is doing an official competition, that is something different for me. If you enter the competition, you wanna see some results and sique fadez
And that is cool, I like aged denim, boots, leather or whatever, but I cant say that your or my fades look better than others. I really enjoy the HWDC thread! -
I've never done a competition (and I'll end my participation in our little fun divergence from topic here), but my approach has long been: Washing jeans is kind of a hassle, and I like contrasted fades. But I don't dread washing jeans enough, or value contrasted fades enough, to be stinky. That's just too high a cost for cosmetics IMO.

When I bought my RRLs (first ever raw denim) and the sales assistant told me not to wash them I became paranoid about getting them dirty and having to wash them. I didn't want to 'ruin' my £200+ jeans.
A year later I realised I hadn't worn them nearly enough and when I did I often couldn't relax. Ridiculous!
Now I've moved on to IH I am going to wear them whenever and wherever I want and if they get dirty or start to whiff a bit I'll wash them.
They're just jeans after all. Very nice jeans, yes, but there is more to life.
