Long time, first time, but confused…. Help/Advice
-
*Cause you came here to ask this Q, I' think you already have half decided.
Get 634S's Blue Jeans (Indigo) (forget blacks and other shades)
As said measure your best fitting jeans that have about same rise as 634s will have. There's guide how we measure our jeans. There are other ways also, but they are wrong
Decide where you want your jeans to end, measure inseam. IF you want to cuff, std. cuff is 2" and add 0.5", so total addition 2,5" to your inseam lenght if you want to cuff. (no cuff, add only 0,5") to inseam lenght. 0,5" is for combing, and even 634S are sanforized, they'll shrink just a bit in lenght as all denim does.
And at last, but not least: Talk to G, he'll get you through it.
-
so butters, please let us know what decision you finally come to.
i think the jean the collective is pushing for has already been determined
-
So it is clear who the Denim gods are pushing me for, and they look like a great pair of jeans.
However, got a little confused on the cuffing thing, and the lengths. Anyone able to straighten that out? I usually cuff , but not a thick cuff like I see some do.
Also, I was looking at the World Tour thread and noticed alot of changing in the sizes that Giles, Lando etc mentioned. I will measure my best fitting Jeans, but if for instance I wear a 33-34, between shrinking and stretch, what do you do?
-
re cuffing.
If you need your jawns hemmed, here's the advice, I hope this makes sense.
Measure your inseam (cuffed lenght, if they are cuffed). Then add 0,5" for combing. Then add width of desired cuff. That's your total inseam lenght after hemming. Capiche?
I mentioned 2" cuff as I like wider cuffs, 1,5"-2" max. though. If you carefully read old posts in the forum, you'll get why I said std. cuff.

Poor boy. If he carefully reads old posts in the forum, his shape will probably have changed before he reaches the end…....
HAHA! Probably true Giles. I have read lots of the forum, and superfuture as well. I notice a couple names like Beatle on both.
The reason I brough up the sizing is because I've always read about shrinking(i.e. shrink to fit of raw denim).
The IH634s are sanforised, but more shrinking is still expected right?
However, the eventually stretch out? Just trying to get a feel for the shape of the jeans to expect. The indigo on the IH634s looks beautiful. Especially so after a little wear (the WT jeans looked great after a month or so).
Lastly,
This being the IH forum on top of IH making great jeans, I understand everyone pushing me that way. However, just to have some variety and all.
Any comparible Sams, PBJ's? Just want a few Brands/models that are quality and comparible to check out as well.

I'll answer the questions that I feel qualified to answer without being seen as partisan.
You'll get no shrinkage out of the 634S. None, nada, zippo. You will get some cuff creep as the combs set, so aim for 1/2 an inch too long plus whatever you want for a cuff - if you want a cuff.
Re: waist. I would say if you want to end up at 33, get 32, if you want to end up at 34, get 33.

Thanks Giles. Even hot soaks or whatever will not shrink them? Just confirming since you seem quite confident on the no shrinkage

You're gonna have a much harder time finding out what size you are in Samurais and PBJs, I can tell you that much… That's why I prefer sanforised jeans... 634S'es will stretch 0.5" - 1.5" (depending on how tight they are at first), but they will not become baggy or lose their shape. After some wear, you might find they shrink a bit after a hotwash but only for a couple of hours. They go straight back to their former specs... It's magic I tells ya

Ok, thanks for the confirmation Seul.
Did you mean that you prefer sanforised?

nah seul's english (written any way) is really spot on. he even get's my humor so i'm partial.
to get back on track just measure your jeans so we can figure out what size to get you in. i haven't seen any bad advice as of yet, so you are lucky
i will also advise against reading my old posts, as you will see i'm just finding my voice around these parts

Just so happens I caught a post on the DC4001's and noticed your handle a few times.
I like the DC4001 as well, but there seem to be some uncertainty on the sizing/fit, and love the details that were added to that Jeans, just not sure if I can fit a slim / straight very well. But I am certainly interested in that jean as well….
Basically need to do a jean measurement, and for good measure a body measurement hah.
-
It all depends on the way you are built. Mainly your thighs: if they are slim you can go with a DC4001 and you will love the jeans, if not or if you want more room to move around the 634s is what you are looking for. Otherwise there are no big differences between the two, apart from the features (leather patch, reinforced front pockets seams on the DC4, half.lined rear pockets etc.).
I started with the DC4001 last year and got a 634s two weeks ago. I am happy with the dc4001, but I am happier with the 634s as I feel free in them.
By the way, if you want to start with 25oz. jeans: the DC4002 is coming soon: same cut as the DC4001 just a higher backrise and 25oz.
-
I wouldn't recommend starting with 25 oz. The 634s are the best gateway drug, the sizing is pretty easy, as they can be stretched a good amount and you don't have to deal with shrink-to-fit-sizing.
If you want information on other brands - well, you said it, it's the IH-Forum. I can recommend Samurai, Flat Head, Momotaro and most other japanese repro brands as well - but most of them are STF so the sizing is more difficult. Try the 634s and if you want some other options, you can always PM me.
And - don't forget about Triple Works - if you're looking for lighter weight jeans.
-
Yep I forgot to say I find 25oz. too heavy for me, also the 24oz. by PBJ. Was just an info…
DC4001 is good, 634s is great, imho.

Finally got around to getting measurements (i used BlueinGreen guide to measuring and might be off a slight bit here or there)
(inches)
waist 34
front-rise 10.5
back-rise 14
upper-thigh 12
knee 8.75-9
inseam 31.75
cuff 8.75
hip (accross bottom of crotch from outseam to outseam) 23Not sure if I'm a candidate for the DC4001's or not. I am a fairly build guy (american football and such) , but the jeans I measured are fitting, but not too tight.
