June is a beautiful time of year to visit - plenty of sun, not too hot. If you’re there on the 12th, you’re in for a treat. The festival of Santo Antonio is a night party/parade on the Avenida da Liberdade. Full of life and colour, the smell of fresh sardines being grilled by street vendors and restaurants fills the air. Been to a couple, so much fun.
I found the red hop on/off sightseeing bus to be a great way to get around. Stops at pretty much all the tourist-y sights, and never had to wait too long for the next bus. The air conditioned bottom level provided relief from the sun, but I loved the open top.
If you have the time, the easy one hour train to Cascais is totally worth it. Lovely place to walk around by the ocean, and the Boca do Inferno is terrifyingly beautiful. Highly recommend.
Tarts anywhere (everywhere!) are delicious, but my favourite were from Pastéis de Belém. Secret recipe, the place can get busy but you’ll be happy you went. One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten was at a restaurant about 5 minutes walk from there, but I sadly can’t recall the name.
There’s a really cool glove shop right by the elevator called Luvaria Ulisses. It’s tiny, really easy to miss. I’ve purchased a few pairs over the years and have loved them. Great quality. A Vida Portuguesa was another cool shop I recall having neat Portuguese-made items.
Can’t help so much with restaurants/bars, it’s been a while and I remember locations not names. If you like seafood I definitely recommend trying the sardines, and if you see Dourada (sea bream) on a menu it’s champ.
I love Portugal, and the people in Lisbon are awesome. Greetings like good day/evening/night (bom dia/boa tarde/boa noite) and thank you (obrigado) go a long way.
Hope you have a blast!
