Being a teacher in an inner city school in America can be crazy at times, which goes without saying of course. I just had a big fight break out between two 8th grade boys in my art classroom. One of which beat the other kids ass pretty bad. Their weight alone moved several large work tables across the room. Eventually I got in-between them and my shouting stopped it. Evidently yelling, 'YOU'RE DONE!" was what finally got through to the bigger guy. One of the boys is easily 100lbs and half a foot taller than the other.

@Oaktavia sounds intense man. I hate when the kids beat the hell out of each other. Usually with my students they are still small enough their punches don’t cause much damage. But this year ive had some kids get jumped on the bus, attacked in the breakfast line, accosted in the bathroom. Something disturbing about 7-11 year olds premeditating assaults like that.
Bet you were a bit rattled yourself dealing with the fight you had in your class…

@Oaktavia just like frying a turkey, gotta have a fire extinguisher on hand. Watch for exploding selvedge.
-
@Mizmazzle yeah man you know it. I'm always a bit rattled when near or breaking up fights, its just intense, violent energy that is difficult to get used to, even after nearly 10 years in the field.
-
@popvulture Oh I have one in my room, I should have thought of that...
-
@Oaktavia lmao I didn't mean for the kids, but hey it could work!
-
Lol I'd probably think the same thing if I were in the situation. "YOU'RE DONE!" DUSHHHHHHHHHHH
-
Make me, Sergio!
-
@Mizmazzle YER DONE SON!
-
@Mizmazzle haha fantastic tripling of personalities, I dig it. FWIW I just found out I am only teaching 6th grade next year so no more 8th grade fights for the foreseeable future (in my classroom at least).
-
@Oaktavia I see…how do you feel about that? Besides the fighting part, of course.
I’m looking to change schools next year. Not sure which grade I’ll land in. 4th or 5th is my preference. I wouldn’t mind moving up to middle school. My license is K-6 though. So not sure it’s in the cards unless I add the endorsement to my current license.

@Mizmazzle I am stoked, I prefer 6th grade to 7th or 8th, especially when the 6th graders are new. They are still pretty much 5th graders with an elementary mindset until they start to get comfortable. 8th grade has given me the most grief so far, although 7th was pretty close. knocks on wood.
What would you need to do to extend your cert to K-12?
