IH-555S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Jeans - Indigo PREVIOUSLY IH-555-01

555s are the best fitting cut in IH I've come across yet
Seconded! They work for me really well, too! Comfy top block, awesome taper with an excellent leg opening for a modern/slim silhouette. Luckily (or unluckily?) so many new denim options will be coming this fall/winter to choose from.

I think that the description of the height of the rise has always been relative in jeans history (go check out Freddie Mercury at Live Aid [emoji15]), but also when it comes to IH.
When it came out, the 555 had a “relatively high rise” when compared to the 666 and 634 the two other “core” jeans in the IH line at the time time. Ignoring the peripheral 1955 cut, the two extremes (777 and 888) didn’t exist at that point.
The other cut doing the rounds at the time, the IHxB01, had a rise described as slightly higher than the 634 as opposed to “high” in it’s own right. So most descriptions were relative to the 634 at that point, I think. The 634, 666, 555 are perhaps all medium rises, with the 634 being “low medium” and the 555 “high medium”.

I've come to the conclusion that this is a stupidly low rise, not a high or medium high rise. The waist line (waist SHOULD be measured one inche below the naval) is sitting on my pubic line. I might have to sell these on. Very frustrating. I have no idea who this pair is cut to Fit?! They 'Fit' as in they aren't too tight, just stupidly low.
-
The rise does seem to vary quite a bit from fabric to fabric in this cut. The 555-02 seems to have a much higher rise, especially in the rear.

I need to measure them against the stated dimensions. Sorry for sounding like a negative mf'er

Nah.. it can be frustrating stuff, I know.
I put mine on today, out of interest, and so you have a point of comparison. Full disclosure: I'm 6' and weigh about 14.5st. I take XL in most IH shirts. I have a big old afro-bum (thanks Dad), so I fill out top blocks to the max. In addition, if I fit waist correctly on the 555 then the thigh's are toight (thanks Dad, and rugby). My pair of these are W34, which is my normal jeans size these days.
I say all this so that you get context. These are snug everywhere on me but the rise is still high compared to the 634 and 666 (more of a medium rise relative to the 888). That is to say that at the back, the bottom tip of the yoke is at the top of my ahem buttcrack, and the top of the waistband is a good 4-5" over that. At the front the top button sits an inch under my navel.
Now I know we're different body shapes, but even so, the rise you describe does seem strangely low.

@Stuart.T this is a stange one, if you want to email me with the full details I can try and help.
Hi Alex. Thanks, I'll get on to that tonight. I know the stated rear rise on the 01 is lower than the 03, just didn't expect quite so different. I'm tempted to give the 18oz 02 a go. Pre wash measurements loom good, and if post rinse the rear rise only lost an inch, that would be perfect. I'll let you know!

@neph I'm 6'2" and 15st9lb. Pretty average height to weight ration. The belt line pretty much sits at my butt crack rather than the yoke! Sexy look for a hairy 44 yr old bloke…not a look the mums at the local kids soft play will dig I'm sure

I'm not suggesting that this is actually the case, but that almost sounds like a pair of 777's with the wrong patch. I have the 555N and 555-03 as well as the 555-01 and the variations in fit just aren't that big. Very strange indeed.

@Alex tag size 36. I just measured the rear rise on my 03 and Ns. Both come in at 17" (post wash). My 01s are 15 3/4 Pre wash, so as listed…I guess 1" makes a bit of difference and I need to grow accustomed. I will still give the 02s ago one day. I love the dimensions of the thigh, knee, and leg opening of all 3 555s I have.

The rise does seem to vary quite a bit from fabric to fabric in this cut. The 555-02 seems to have a much higher rise, especially in the rear.
The rear rise shrinks more than most other measurements on raw/unwashed jeans, remember. (as it is bigger to begin with)
Right, but even considering that they seem to have a higher rear rise. My 555-02's still have quite a high back rise after their first soak but I didn't actually take measurements to be fair. This is just based on feel.

Soooo…having lived with and worn these for a couple of weeks now, I have to say I was full of crap. Now that they have stretched out a little it seems to have made a world of difference to how the rise feels. I love em!
