White's Boots
-
not a problem mate, I actually was more kidding as being dead serious about it…tbh I haven't handled a pair of whites (with that sole) at all, but I think you should grab whatever insole to make you feel comfortable while walking/wearing them...if you have some space in the boots i'd go for one of those comfy gel insoles! hope it helps...
-
id resole ss. i doubt you will ever break that sole in
my thoughts exactly.. but now the issue is where?
-
insole first for sure! Made a huge difference in breaking in my 875's.
Picked up http://www.hanksclothing.com/red_wing_steel_toe_insoles_buy.html in the redwing store in Harajuku (if you're still about over there). Else Rakuten sellers have them too.
The thing with insoles is it moves where your heel hits the back of the boot, so expect a little grief re-adjusting in that area. My RW went from painful 10hr hikes to hey, still got some spring in my step….
feel your pain tho brutha, did the EXACT same thing in JP (until I visited RW store, and my troubles ended).

try the insole first!…what were you expecting of that triple sole though?
with that sole, I guess even chuck Norris would have had his problems!...i really didn't think much of it since this was my first pair of shoes with an actual leather midsole or even a leather sole.. i've only owned red wings and wolverine's that i've never really worn.. what kinda insoles would you think would work? like those comfort insoles?
I have a double midsole + stiff vibrams, can't say that it has been very problematic after the first week of überstiffness?
-
This might sound weird, but trust me on this. With a triple midsole and a thick rugged sole you need to change the way that you walk. If you stamp round in them like you're wearing Red Wings then you will break before the boots do.
If you walk a little flat footed, you need to learn to roll the front of your foot as you step.
Also worth remembering that a Vibram 100 sole ( I think that's what you have) is not a pavement sole. Those Boots were not made for city trekking, buy some SD's or Oxfords for that.

my boots have been aching my feet to hell my whole trip to japan.. wore them all trip long and walked in them at least 10 hours a day. they are still hard as feck…. will these ever soften up to be the comfy pair of white's they are claiming they are? or will these feel like pavement forever. Am seriously considering a re-sole... or an insole..
you were already in japan! you should have sent them to okuyama san

i don't know man… was seriously considering it... but i didn't know the benefits and whatever about re-soling.. wanted to know more before I did anything.
-
theres no benefit from resole-ing youll just put your boots back to standard regular life boots . those boots will get softer thru time. a week of 24 hours walking will not soften those fuckers up.
i suggest yous top complaining and use it till the midsole softens up . what you did was something extreme.

a lower heel seems to make the arch not as intense. You could also have them rebuild on the northwest last, which is much more arch forgiving. not sure if thats practical at this point however…

just in!
semi-dress in burgundy cxl with black cherry cap and uppers, double midsole and composition outsole (with DC4001)

am thinking of a new pair! with the sole config like yours and demonito's above. am considering either a single or double midsole in brown color with half comp sole… not sure which i should get though, single or double.

my god
after seeing these i cant wait
mine will have a drastically smaller sole but thats basically mine 6 weeks…. grerrrhghgh

yeah, the soles are massive, i might darken the sides a bit. i wanted a decidedly different pair of SD's that fit well between the very flat and reduced brown buffalo ones and my black cxl bounty hunters.
i left the oxfords out of the family pic, as they are an entitely different breed.Anyway I am quite happy with how they turned out. Hope i am done now
