IHV-23 - Super Heavy Knitted Cotton Vest
-
Thank you gentlemen, I appreciate your kind words, (også de som er på norsk @hajduk )!
Bit of a review after the first day wearing it: It's chest/length ratio is a little trimmer than other IH vests, so it's a different fit than the IHV-02, for example. This suits the material. Anyone familiar with the IHTB-01/05/06 will know that this in wonderfully soft and heavy, so it drapes really nicely on the body. These two aspects combine so that it feels almost like an armless cardigan, more than a vest. It'll be interesting to see how it keeps its shape with a lot of wear, though.
Whenever I get my hands on an IH product there is always a surprise detail, one thing that I wasn't expecting to make an impression, but that really stands out for me. In this case it's the constructional stitching. It's black, subtle and only visible on the grey, but very well done and finishes the garment beautifully, making it more stylish than something in this material could be expected to be. Like @tmg says, it isn't as "in your face" in real life, as the bold stripes might lead you to believe, and despite it being jersey cotton, you could absolutely dress it up if you wanted to, white shirt underneath, black jacket over the top, for example.
I'll be wearing it with the ducks and black boots like today, but also with my SBG BB's. When it comes to tops, in addition to tees, I'll try wearing it over my IH Henleys and my IHSH-67, although the western yoke might fekk that plan up. In which case I'll have to buy the white 119 I've been trying to pretend isn't in stock. Also the IHTL's are looking at me screaming "cool combo, buy me". I'd better log off now….
In short, I'm pleased.

great review. I like cardigans more than mister rogers, may have to take a look at this . . . .

@tmg:
Will they be rerun, this year or next year?
What size in do you take in IH tee's, mate?

I'm an L in the T's as I like them fitted, but XL or XXL in shirts…...did wonder if the L might fit but suspect not unfortunately. It's not as if I need another vest, since the Beach Vest arrived today (XL) and I'm very pleased with it too, but your pics of this vest really surprised me with how good it looked.

Yeah I think you're right that XL is for you. I'm a XL in shirts and I actually manage M's in tee's. I like vests snug so I ordered L as that's what my other vests are, and some measurements from Nippon suggested it would work. When it got to Gosport and G measured it for me it came up with a 49/50cm chest and that scared the crap out of me. The XL has a 52cm and it's great for me. I will say this though I'm pretty sure these will stretch with wear.
Ironically, I saw the beach vest thread today. I wasn't fussed when they came out. Now I want one of those too.. Look forward to seeing some pic's.

Cheers guys. I'm enjoying it more with each wear.
@Anesthetist It's not for everyone I agree. I'd be interested to know the provenance of the design. I'm guessing it might be styled after something more Japanese, rather than in the fashion of western workwear. @Giles do you know?

Pretty Japanese Bikerish..
That makes sense…
I did not rate it at all until I saw Jiro in one, then I really wished I have ordered them…
I can see why you hesitated as it's a bit different. Reminds me a bit of some of the clothing in that late 60's TV show The Prisoner. Either way the combination of material and design works for me. It's good to have something a bit different in the wardrobe.
