IHJ-80-BEI - Cotton Mix Mountain Parka - Beige
Low-tech meets high-tech. Seemingly a classic mountain parka constructed from 65/35 cotton/polyester with a traditional cotton tartan lining. What we've concealed is a hi-tech breathable/waterproof/windproof film bonded between the inner and outer layers. Looks old-school, but is new-school cool.

This jacket really snuck up on me. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do. I'm curious to learn more about the water-repellent properties. Just how waterproof is this jacket?
I'm also curious about the velcro closures for the pockets. Is there a functional reason for this? Or is this purely an aesthetic choice?
Regardless, this is a really nice piece of kit. I think both colors work equally well, too.

It has a flexible, breathable, waterproof lining bonded between the inner and outer layers. Like all waterproof/breathable fabrics, it will not ever be as waterproof as an impenetrable layer (but obviously with an impenetrable layer, you will get condensation on the inner surfaces). Goretex and the like are amazing, but eventually, do let water through, though of course, the up-side is that they do allow moisture to move from the inner to the outer surface. IMO, you cant have the best of both worlds, the technology simply does not exist yet.
H loves a bit of Velcro. You could remove with minimal scarring of the shell fabric.

Hey @seanocono,
Just to follow up - we use Moifit for the Cotton Mix Mountain Parka, which is an elasticated technical cloth that is breathable and waterproof. It is often bonded to the reverse of a garment's fabric. And because of its superior flexibility, it will not alter maneuverability.
Hope this helps as little.

Replaces my old North Face parka which has lost all waterproofingness.
Much better fit too and glad to move away from the blocky design which is so pervasive amongst parkas.Very pleased with these technical items from IH…guess I should have learned to expect taht and not let it surprise me after 5+ years using IH products. Well done guys!

Glad you joined the 80 club, it’s one heck of a beefy shell isnt it?

Damn that's looking very sharp! I can see use cases for this jacket on formal days when the weather is shite.

Thanks for the approval guys, I fully concur with your reactions. Can’t believe how sharp this one feels and looks. Never expected raingear to give me the feeling of sharply dressed after so many years of wearing shapeless waterproof tarps over myself.

Looking like professional mountain parka of Reinhold Messner.
Cool stuff. -
This is a remarkably understated piece. Unfortunately, the link has been broken on the seasonal collection thread for the IHJ-80-BLK, please forgive the crossed post. For me, the IHJ-80 fills the hole in my wardrobe for a hooded, three-season outer layer that is long enough to cover my IHSH's and UHF's. This completes the look for me. I've missed out on some real gems in the IHJ extinct section, but now I can wear IH with hoods and hand pockets all four seasons! Small victories
