IH-634-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
New to the forum and to Iron Heart generally - I have a quick question on fit with these jeans:
I'm a weightlifter/powerlifter and often have trouble finding pants that will fit. I generally have to purchase size 40+ waist pants and have the waist taken in to a 34-36 to get pants that fit my legs.
I've measured a pair of pants of mine that fit well and the thigh sits at just a hair over 14 inches. I've noted that the thigh measure on the 36's in the 634's is 13.8". I've also read the posts that most people get a little stretch out of the denim with wear in the waist. Does anyone have experience with stretch in the thigh as well?
I'm in this weird position where I would actually like to shrink the waist by about an inch or so and get no stretch, but would love an extra inch in the thigh.
Any suggestions with this?

Stretch in the thigh is pretty normal. Getting 0.2" in stretch should be no issue
As far as the waist stretching, the waist will only stretch as far as the pressure you apply to it. So if you're wearing a size 36 and you're cramming a 37" waist into it, you're going to wind up with a waist of 37" eventually. The fix for this is to wear a thick belt to avoid stretch
One thing to bear in mind: these jeans are VERY stubborn. I have quite a few pairs of IH denim, and these are the most resistant to stretch. This is both a good and bad thing for you it seems…

Time to get some life in this thread. 6 months old. Worn maybe around 4. One Dr. Bronner - handwash.
I call the comb areas heaven and hell. The right side stayed in place after wash a hundred percent. The left side maybe fiftyThe leather patch is a thirsty mofo. Oiled it three times after the wash and still looks dry.

Patch looks good to me

I've read up the entire blog for both the 634S and the 634-XHS but still can't make up my mind which one to buy. I've never bought any IH product so far (never touched and felt the 634S or the 634-XHS), so this will be my first step into the IH world. The heaviest denim I own is 15.7Oz, so I've never worn anything as heavy as IH.
As much as I love the challenge of wearing out a 25Oz, I am not sure whether it'll worth putting up with such a heavy fabric or not. Your thoughts?
I live in Northern California, where summers are pretty mild - occasionally a few hot days. Is the 25Oz as breathable and does it mould to your skin? (Several IH forum members talk about how they sleep in their 634S since they are so comfortable even though they are 21Oz).
One point of reference I can give you - I did get a chance to visit Self Edge in SFO and got to try out their collaboration with Leather Soul (the 23 Oz fabric) in size 33 (the size for this model is all messed up. I generally wear a size 34 in most denim brands) and they felt really heavy.
Thanks for your help.

Go with the 634 21oz. The denim is thick, but comfortable and extremely breathable, and can be worn even on warm days. The 25oz denim is hardcore, not for hot days, and probably would not be as enjoyable first IH denim experience as the 21oz in my opinion.

Get 634S.
Then decide if you want looser fit, and if you do, check out those extinct 634SR/ RAW's in 21/23oz. Or XHS in 25oz.
G posted that he found some 634SR so you might wanna check them out.

I have 634s, Sr, and xhs
I prefer the 25oz ahead of the 23 oz, with the 21 oz close
In all fairness, when I discovered IH, I bought the 21oz and very quickly the 23 oz came out and I loved it, plus I was lucky to have one of my 23oz pants overdyed, making it a unique piece, so I just didnt feel like anything else for a long while, even though the 21oz was a perfect pant too… So my ranking 21 slightly behind the 23oz is purely sentimental.
That said, for me the 25oz rulezzzz. Heavy as fuck, thick, but so comfy. Love it. Daily wear for the last year except when I was in Texas in august! -
^ Really like the slimmer fit you have on those.
