BiG (Blue In Green)

I did some quick calculations and based on the current USD/Yen exchange rate, the price of these jeans would be approximately 56,500 Yen (which is still extremely expensive). As of the same date over the past few years, that amount of Yen would equal (more or less):
2010: $697
2009: $607
2007: $518
2006: $475The price in US Dollar terms has increased more than 50% over the past five years due to the strengthening of the Yen against the US$. The "cost of making denim in Japan" could have stayed the same over those 5 years, but the cost (in US$ terms) has gone up 50%. This price increase can either be eaten by the seller or paid by the buyer (or some combination of both). Only Gordon knows the math behind this one.
All that being said, I think that $480 is the maximum that anyone should pay for jeans right now (since I just bought the 666 25oz. yesterday…) In addition, I don't need silver buttons on my pants. They are just pants, after all.

One final thought: I was not trying to justify the $725 price of these jeans (which I believe is too expensive for jeans), but the issue is not unique to BiG, as Giles points out in his reply. Anyone that produces goods in, or sources materials from, Japan will be faced with the same pricing issue if the final product is sold in another currency.
I am a "big" fan of BiG and have always had excellent serivce there (I am currently wearing a pair of PBJs that I bought at BiG). They have a knowledgeable and friendly staff, led by Gordon. The changing rooms are a little "cozy" and hot in the Summer, but everything else is great.

I don't disagree that the number is pretty ridiculous I'm just saying its not that far of a stretch when you start doing collabs with hank dyed NI and hand painting pockets and bedazzle them with silver. there are NI jeans all over approaching that price. and hell we're paying half that much for flannel around here. there's a small market for such jeans and I'm sure they'll sell a few pair. I would not buy them but I wouldn't fault someone that did
Jaco again speaks the truth! Seems to not make any sense what so ever to say 500 is fine but 725 now that's just insane. Really WTF? It's two bills! If it's what ya want and ya got the cash then an item is worth whatever your willing to pay for it. As far as saying now that is just overpriced, might be a good idea to look around at the house first and make sure the walls ain't made of glass.
Amen to that. My personal limit is around 300€ / 450$, just because I can actually get everything that interests me at this price. But it's just simple economics-if the jeans are worth 700 bucks to you, you get them, if not, you don't. And, this must be allowed, there are folks that spend 1.500$ for a silver wallet chain. Nobody complained about that.

wallet chain is pure doneness. to compare it to those jeans, i had to say something (i get it's just an example & a valid one depending on where u are standing so don't take me so seriously).
i keep my fiancee talk & what i'm willing to spend talk to a limit because i have come to the point where unless someone can actually have an impact on what i have to come out of my pocket it makes no sense for me to talk about it with you. no offense, but big bank takes little bank. if i could find a way to write off a big purchase or subsidize it with a side project/hustle i am more inclined to do it
some of the best one-liners have been found in this thread & i won't pretend to agree with any of you, but instead just keep my opinion to myself.

Kiya has the exclusive rights for the US I think.

Kiya and Self Edge have exclusive rights to distribute Iron Heart in North America. Always been that way and very unlikely to change, barring totally unforseen circumstances.
EDIT: beat me to it, MP!

If I always new what made commercial sense, I'd be a Gazillionaire, unfortunately a lot of business is not a science, it is an art, it is about personal relationships and gut instinct. I'm not complaining, far from it, but I follow a route in my business dealings that makes me feel good…..I feel good about where I am.....
