White's Boots
-
Okay, getting close I think to figuring out my Semi-Dress configuration, which I hope to order before too long. Here's what I am thinking, with still a few uncertainties:
-
461 last. I like the upturned toe.
-
Straight heel, 1/4" lowered.
-
Cap toe.
-
Natural edge finish.
-
Standard trim (probably).
– Still unsure about leather. I like the Black Chromexcel, but am just a little worried about the stretching and aging issues. Thinking of Black Oil Tan ("smooth") and Black Dress as well. Not sure about the matte finish of the Oil Tan, and breaking in that thick leather.
- Still unsure about sole. I like the looks of the 269, but am unsure of traction. Thinking also of "commando mini lug half sole" and the 700 or 705 half soles. In this regard, does anyone know if Whites does the 705 half sole with that figure 8 sort of stitching? And I am not clear on the differences between the 700 and 705. Finally, can anyone testify to the traction of the 700/705?
Getting close... Thanks for all the help.

Small starts with White's but we are also in the process of taking on a few other handmade boot brands that are respected in these waters.
Suggestions always welcome of course ; )
Hi Jamie,
great to hear of that opportunity to buy through you!
As for the suggestions, I think while Viberg is slightly over represented, Russell Moccasin and Rider Boot Co. aren't in stock in Europe, afaik. Also White Kloud Japan is a very interesting brand, combining top notch craftsmanship (Edward Green level) with work boot antics like White's. http://whitekloud.jp
Japan has a few more interesting offerings, like Lone Wolf, Chaucer, Boots & Boots, that have no rep outside of Nippon.Good luck with your venture!
Thanks nicecrackaction (was going to shorten it but don't want to be cheeky, no pun intended),
Some great suggestions there, I looked at White Kloud, they look very nicely made and I'm quite keen to get them, just waiting to hear. Appreciate all the suggestions as well. Notes are made and the research is in hand.
Appreciate the "good Luck" also.
Jamie.

Rancourt and Company and Quoddy both do moccasins and are highly regarded. There are a few places that do Quoddy, such as End Clothing. I don't think that Rancourt are represented over here, but they manufacture the Eastland Made in Maine and Redwing Handsewn collections.
Looking forward to seeing the site. I've been thinking of a pair of White's Semi Dress.
Thanks Graeme. Quoddy do seem to be in all the obvious places but I'll take a look at Rancourt.
Just for knowledge we will have 4 styles on the Semi-Dress last in a mix of colours for stock.
Thanks again,
Jamie.

@eastwest: Will you offer different styles of the Smokejumper too? Thx, Andi
Hi Andi,
1 initially but in my next bulk order there will be a few more. There is also the build a boot option which I can price up for you as and when or you'll be able to do it automatically when that section of the website goes live. Trying not to sales pitch it too much here!
Hope that helps.
Jamie.

reading is over rated ::)

Giles, they look nearly as big as Megatron's. I hope you've booked a spare plane to fly them home.
EastWest, another suggestion would be William Lennon. They're not replicas of old school workboots because they're still made in the same way on 100-odd year old machinery. I'm after a pair of their World War I boots. Lennon make the Dundas boots too.
I actually dropped by the factory today, and they're a friendly bunch. Give them a shout.

They look great G!

@riffblaster:
I have been eyeing the White's Semi dress boots for quite a while now but I am unsure about sizing. Does anyone have a pair of these and could you give me a size comparison to RW or to an Alden Indy?
These boots really look amazing. If you have a pair please post a review!
I own a size 8 in RW and a size 9E in White's and they are about the same. As for Alden's, I don't have Indy's, but my dress shoes are 8,5 or 9 and the 9 is tighter, but equal in length to either the RW 8's and the White's 9 E's, but more narrow.

G, beasts. Makes me wish I'd brought mine so we could have kicked the Hotel Carter down
Luggage allowance was only 23kg each though
