I prefer the commando sole, myself. It gives good traction and still has a relatively sleek profile. If you do much walking on concrete or in wet conditions, (or even worse, a combination of the two) leather soles wear out more quickly. They also need more time to dry out if they do get wet.

Love my leather soles.

Just recieved a notice that viberg will be receiving equipment to start using Goodyear welts

A lot will steer you away from a leather sole. I have a pair with leather sole cats paw combo and I've yet to wipe out in them on ice. It's a personal preference and I think they look cool. So go for it !
These boots will be walking in Australia so ice and snow will not be an issue. So looking good for the double leather then!
Sorry i am new to boots, Goodyear welts? I have heard the term but what is it and how will it change viberg?

the look wont change
its just a faster and lighter way of making boots -
They look nice. What heels have you got. Looks like leather to me. People are saying cat paw heels. Why have a leather sole and a cat paw heel not all leather or all rubber?
-
cats paw heel will not slip todd and its vintage inspired as cats paw and biltrite were rubber companies supporting shoemakers. some of the heels are repros but in some cases you will get a deadstock heel on to the boot if lucky all personal taste mate

Sole search continues, anyone knows what kind of sole this is?
Can see the cats paw heel but otherwise clueless. To me a great overall look and setup.

So this is interesting:

^Viberg's new boot builder is online, but not on their site, yet. It isn't completed (probably why it's not on the site), and the pricing is WAY off; but it appears they have changed their model range. The service boots are definitely different – more like White's. I'm curious if anyone can shed any light on this...

It very well could be an older link than I am familiar with. The only builder I ever played with featured a 40's Service Boot, and a 50's Service Boot, in addition to the Hikers, Oxfords, etc.. It didn't have the Semi Dress Service, the Navy Service, the 8" Service, or the Engineer. Also, the leathers are different from the one I previously used.
My first visit to their site was late November '12, so it is entirely possible that this is an older builder.
Although, if it were older, it wouldn't really make sense that it is partially completed. The leathers in this builder also line up with the recent samples provided by Viberg.
