Good news indeed D666.

speaking of carrots, did you know there is know such thing as baby carrots in nature, totally processed food right there. Nasty huh?
-
Yeah, chopped and rolled smooth but oh so tasty
Baby carrots are horrible for you! Ever notice how they turn white? Fucking Chlorine!

It's very expensive, but I don't buy any meat, cheese, vegetables or fruit from a standard grocery store. Up here, I go to Whole Foods and when I lived in Memphis, I went to Fresh Market. If your buying IH, you have no excuse, to not buy organic foods. You are what you eat, know it.
-
Very true, but just as an example you can get organic baby carrots for instance. OG is not the end all be all for food, especially when it comes to proteins. We get the majority of our produce from a CSA and all the meat (minus fish) I buy is from local farmers. Grass fed grass finished beef, animals living in conditions suitable for living in etc…
For fish, I avoid anything farmed as that's equivalent to a "feed lot" or "cage" situation.
I think once you reach the conscious level of choosing OG vs. pesticide you owe it to yourself to keep going.

Z set me straight. He's damn straight about the meats. I try to only buy wild caught fish from NE run boats. As for meats, I try to get farm raised local, but I'm in the country and they usually want you to buy like half a pig or quarter cow (from a farmer), I don't have the space and I'm not super keen on freezing. When I can, I scum some of my good friends pig he slaughtered a few months ago. You should've heard all the bitching when they were sent off to the slaughter house. I saw how great those pigs were treated and the awesome life they had, so I had not problems throwing back some bacon.

Some people are disgusted by it, but I fucking love organic pesticides, aka beneficial insects. Most great OG farms use beneficial insects to combat the invasive insects. A very common application is lady bugs. They like to eat everything, like leaf miners, fungus gnats, mites, etc. Nematodes are also a great beneficial insect. They are microscopic and when you get them, it looks like toothpaste.
-
Absolutely, Z. I'm enrolled in an organic, locally-grown produce delivery collective and love my weekly deliveries (although, according to them, I eat enough produce for a family of 8; thanks Paleo). I buy only wild fish from a local fish market. I need to find a good butcher shop or source for local meat (slacking on research). I use Whole Foods now.
Also, and this is widely overlooked, drink good water. Lots of good water.

Good water as in filtered with a Britta jug or good water from a bottle?
-
Well, I fill up 5 gallon glass jugs from this place:
http://www.beyondo2water.com/index.html
It's probably a little overkill. Most groceries have machines that will fill up 5 gallon jugs with filtered water for $1.50.
Don't buy bottles, though. There are way too many plastic bottles in the world.
And I'm always worried Britas don't work how they should.
-
Yeah, just checking you weren't a bottle man ;). I use a Brita jug at home because London water is grotesque. The filter makes a huge difference to the taste of my coffee, tea and Scotch and the water doesn't leave limescale all over my kettle and coffee gear so I'm happy.

I went to the local farmer's market and they sell food coming from Mexico, Costa Rica etc. same stuff we can get from a nationwide grocery chain. Whole Foods is nice, it is convenient but slightly more expensive. Really wish I can find some authentic locally grown and organic food in one place without driving around towns/cities to get them.

I drink water from the tap cause I have a budget that goes towards beer and wine… And cheese... And chocolate mousse without gelatine... But I digress...
Oh and I find it noble that you watch out what you eat, lads... I try to avoid a lot of things but compensate it by being a lazy arsehole and buy pre-packed cheese or salads and all that...
-
My water tastes fine but is super hard. Makes using the dishwasher almost useless. But we recently had a water softener installed. Ditching the 2.5 gal Brita tap dispenser.

Tap water all the way!
Just got off a loooooong flight to London. Sweet Baby Jesus it's cold here…hasn't anyone realised its almost summer?Wow, it's nearly winter back home and warmer than this!
Just as we'll that I love this place for other reasons.
Is Gosport weather typically better or worse than London? Anyone?
