I tried searching for what Red Hawk was after seeing the BiG pic on IG. Couldn't find anything. I was curious myself.
-
No they both have BLACK warp, And WHITE weft
red hawk has yellow and orange accent stitching. Black hawk has all black accents… On similar note, Im having difficulty understanding the difference in these and the black knights.. Look to be nearly identical with exception of patch and buttons.... The thigh measuremetn looks about 1/4 ' larger than my lot 15 s710xx so am debating these... was thinking they would b a bit slimmer than they are showing up on the site even when figuring post soak -
Also copper versus black hardware
-
the Black Hawk are really not very different to the Black Knight. But why should they? The Black Knight is sold out and sold well. See it as a modified restock
-
Is the 19 oz regular straight fit the same as the 510xx? Looks to be the sane but just not labeled as such… Looking for a cut similar to the 634 in the 19 oz Sammie denim ( my favorite of the Sam denim).
-
yep, BiG labels the 510 as such.
From what I heard/know the S5000 cut is more similar to the 634 cut -
i completely forgot I had an anniversary s5000vx, guess thats happens sometimes
until posting this this morning. I do like that 19 oz fabric a whole lot though..
-
yeah the 19oz denim has an amazing fading potential! and I like the greyish look it gets when worn and faded a lot. What I don't like that ´much on my pair of 710, the white weft is very apparant, making te denim lighter looking.
-
I've seen several pairs that I thought the same about I'm not sure if that's from the lot of that particular years denim or what, as I'm just really beginning to learn about samurai, their fabric took some getting used to after being with IH, flathead, and my very first pair of "nice" denim 3sixteens. I like my 710 but they just don't work with my everyday boots, really thinking about maybe picking up a 510 in the 19 oz.
Also and on a different but related note, after several pair of 25oz IH and a couple. 23 oz I'm starting to feel like the heavier denim is cool but as far as being universally versatile I think the 19 oz samurai or even the 21 oz is about as heavy as I am comfortable with before I start noticing that the denim just doesn't and never will drape completely correct with how these "traditional" based cuts should. Primarily I notice the "heavy" gathering at my knees much worse than allowing the excess to settle near the ankle where it should… This aspect is pushing me more to these mid heavyweights. This view would probably be considered an "unpopular opinion" but just something I've noticed as my collection grows in variety.
-
nah, I'm totally with you.
Heavy denim has its attraction and the "wow, I'am wearing crazy heavy shit that none of the normal people wear"-feeling. But it is not really universally versatile, like you said. And the fading pattern you get is also kind of predertiminated (the same is with extra slubby denim, the slubby denims have a very similar look when faded) due to the nature of the denim itself.
I myself prefer the range from 13-17oz, which is also more historical correct and I am coming from and liking the repro side of the Japanese brands A LOTBrands like Full Count, Denime and Warehouse.
And you are also correct with the draping. Of course the 19oz denim fades beautifully and the 510 cut will allow you to wear boots, but the S5000VX or a pair of S0500XX will mold better to your body and drape better around your legs and shoe wear
-
Might have to look into the 500xx. How is the 15oz samurai denim? Is it as stretch prone as the zero 17oz denim… That's my main dislike if my 5000vx. A size 29 has stretched an insane amount in the waist even with my belt suffocatingly tight. I would love to check out brands like you mentioned , unfortunately the length of my legs narrows the field for me much more than the average person. :-\
-
Also been looking at momotaros lately as they have some workable inseams in cuts that look promising to what I'm looking for
-
Warehouse 660 is a cut for your build. Snd it has a 40" inseam. That should be enough
Mhh…thr S0500XX stretches less but still noticable
-
Thanks gonna of a lil research on the WH 660, really appreciate the input
-
The Momotaro 0905 (one wash) and 0901 (unsanforized) are a classic straight cut and close to the 634 fit. Nice denim, too. I've grown to really love the pink inseam and the Going To Battle stripes, which I thought were overbearing initially.
-
Yeah just checked out the warehouse, the thigh and leg opening are Definetly too small force hat I'm looking for. Part of the issue is my height to waist ratio.. At 6'6" with a 30" waist a classic straight leg always looks like a slim cut on me. That's generally why I go for that straight cut and it works. I actually like the pink stitching on those momos
-
Sorry but here's a sizing question, if I'm a. 30 in the s710 19oz should I size the same for a 510 19oz.
-
I usually stick to the same size along one brand to achieve the desigern's intended fit
