New Viberg Boondoggies!! Sick!!
-
Might get some balm in them like Mr Aries
Saw some dudes on the Viberg blog do it too. Great idea. Makes them look a little weathered as well. -
if anyone has an 11 in the boondockers or an 11.5 can you please tell me what the length of the sole measures and the width at the widest part. I really want a pair but after dropping a couple grand on vibergs that didnt work for me and getting next to nothing for them on ebay im a bit reluctant to roll the dice again

Beautiful Scotty!
Either a bit of leather preservative/beeswax or at least some waterproof spray should gear them up weather-wise.
Tatman - why'd you sell on ebay? On here and style forum I've received (and seen others receive) a good 2nd hand price for Vibergs. Not what I paid but a fair price. Granted it took about a month, but buyers are out there for Viberg, more so than other brands.

Weather ready Mr Aries

I announced on the items for sale but wanted to hitvs large market since my foot is fairly large. Either way, it was a bad decision but live and learn. :-\
The cool part is … With the little money I did get, eBay dipped their Greedy little hands in my pocket and took a considerable amount more than the last time I had sold on there.... Guess that's what I get for not reading their ever changing fine print daily. But seriously... I'm not bitter

True Tats!! They really are greedy fuckers! It's pretty much 10% of your sale they take now. Then PayPal (owned by them) take another bite. Dirt bags!!

Mine still have no evidence of lace wrapping and I tighten em hard and have worn them probably 10 times!

Ha. No whites and nicks are factories. But still skilled guys and made by hand. But why are whites 400 and viberg 700? Have to do with Canadian dollar.? I'm not being smart, really wanna know, if someone can tell me why viberg is so much more for a good reason Mabey I'll try a pair. I LOVE quality goods

In that case there are many better people to answer this question than myself, as I've not got much knowledge of Whites and never owned a pair.
Firstly it should be said that Viberg's proper 'work boots' go for substantially less than, for lack of a better term, their 'fashion' boots. So you can get Vibergs for $200 upwards.
AFAIK, going from previous discussions, Viberg have a much smaller work force, a few more steps in the boot making process, alongside the fact that as 'fashion' boots they can charge a premium, as there is no other comparable boot on the market.
It's all about the elasticity of supply and demand, symbolic value and the cost of smaller production runs.

A major factor is that the provenance of Viberg seems to be worth more to the consumer than the provenance of Whites. Although, I also think that Viberg do perhaps incur more overhead costs due to their business size and location.
Whether that price difference is justified is down to the individual consumer I guess.

And this will always be the answer at the end of the day. Some of us spend $300-500 on denim, others much more on bags, suits etc.
Any explanation that attempts pure rationality will always be lacking in this area, as fashion is by definition a highly irrational phenomena (as opposed to clothing one requires for work/specific labour, which is generally a very rational decision).

White's vs Viberg is the eternal unsolved question! I think both are made in similar small, hands-on factory and are of roughly comparable quality of construction. There is no doubt that the "fashion" factor has driven up Viberg prices recently. But White's have also gone up a bit, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a pair for $400 – more like $500 and up. Still cheaper than Viberg of course.
Again, I think quality is comparable, but I do find that Viberg has a real edge on styling, and I think their leathers are a cut above what's available with White's. Whether that justifies the price is up to each buyer. I confess that I never thought I would come CLOSE to paying what it takes to get a pair of Vibergs, but eventually I came around. Once you've decided to spend 4 or 5 hundred, what's another 2 hundred...?!

Quite, and once you have that mindset the decision to acquire a second, and third, pair is remarkably easy
