IHJ-14 - Heavy Duck Award Jacket in Navy or Beige
-
I was able to see this jacket in person yesterday at Self Edge and it is an amazing jacket. The outer shell is super windproof and made of a very hefty cotton duck fabric. The knitted cuff construction is similar to the MF Deck jacket / Buzz Rickson MA-1 in that it forms a tight seal on your wrist but moves freely should you need the extra length. The troy blanket lining gives warmth and the satin lining makes you never want to take it off from your arms.
The zipper is rock solid and you will need to exert a good pull to zip it up (I was afraid of breaking that thing).I tried a Large and it fits like a glove. It is similar to my other jacket (Stevenson Reversible Cadet Jacket) but this one is on steroids.
Hope this review makes you wanna get it. Hopefully, by the time I get to save up, there'll be one in the internetz.

Wore this last night in 28F(-2C) weather in 30mph+ winds which made it a "real feel" of 5F(-15C). I had a t-shirt and Gitman Lightweight flannel on underneath and it kept me quite warm.

Tried this one on yesterday at SENY. Really liked it except is it just me or are the pockets very high on this? I couldn't get comfortable when my hands were in the pockets. I got used to the type III high pockets but these seemed even higher.
Anybody else feel that way?
Feels fine to me but I'm a shorter dude. I wish the arms weren't as wide throughout the sleeves though.

Pockets prob seem high cuz its a shorter jacket

the chest measurements for these seems to be rather big. G, you reckon would you be able to size down on these?
-
I could go down to an M for a more fitted look, yes.
thanks G! so you reckon I could get away with a small? would the shoulders be an issue?
my measurements are,
shoulders around 17.5"
chest 40 to 41"arms are never an issue. (i've got arms like a t-rex)

two minor "issues" with the 14,
1. the sleeves could have been a bit more tapered towards the hand openings to give a more tailored appearance
2. the bottom zip has some material that sticks out and looks odd.will love to see if this does well enough to return next year & watch if any tweaks occur. . .

oh and I'll add a bonus "issue" the exterior pockets are lined in cord on one side but the interior pocket is lined on both sides. all my "issues" are minor & as usual are just brought up as possible tweaks for next year. consider it free research & development if this stays around. i get a lot of mixed reactions on this piece from forum homies but civilians that have no idea on what Iron Heart is always love this jacket. Like most things Iron Heart it's such a simple understated item that is overbuilt with out a bunch of bells & whistles.
