White's Boots
-
Read through 212 pages…..forgot about every other boot I was looking at. Not going red wing, or thorogood, or OSB, or anything. I'm just gonna save until I can afford:
Bounty Hunter
Probably 6"
Plain Toe
Red Dog Roughout
Single Midsole
Commando min-lug (or Vib430 if that doesn't work)
1/4 dropped standard heel (I am 6' 4" already)
Antique eyes & hooks
No liner (from what I learned....roughout needs no liner)Thats the hard part done....now I just need some funds!

False tongue - Natural Chrome Excel by HorweenUrbanwoodsman, any chance of getting a picture or a description of how these boots have aged? I'm curious about how the brown distressed leather is evolving compared to the Nat CXL.
From your pics, the 2 leathers look extremely similar when new, except that the Nat CXL seems to have a bit of a sheen, while the distressed smooth looks completely matte. Is that accurate? Any other differences?
How about 6 months later?
I'm thinking about ordering a pair of BHs in one of these leathers (or maybe both, like you have done), and it would be really helpful to understand how each of them wears over time. You've got them both of them on the same boot, so it's nearly a perfect controlled experiment!

Leftcoast - these boots (re-posted from prior page) are all nat. cxl BHs, 9-10 mos of regular wear, several times per week - stains across insteps are from indigo, and darkness on top of left boot is from motorcycle shifter. I have not touched them with any sort of leather treatment or tried to clean them (they are not really dirty from normal streetwear). hopefully this gives you an idea of how the cxl ages.
Evo update on natty cxl BH

I've applied Pecards Oil twice and I'm about to do it again.

Those look great

What are people treating their Horse Hide Whites with? I have some Obenauf's LP. That would be fine, right?

Thanks Bluegrass, that is helpful. Looks like the leather has hardly darkened at all.

Thanks Urbanwoodsman! They've aged really nicely. Interesting that in these photos, the Nat CXL and the distressed smooth look even more alike after 6 months of tough love than they did when brand new.
Are these the same boots? In this pic it's much easier to see the difference in the leathers. Is this what they typically look like in daylight?

Yep, that should work well.

Yeah those are the same boots. I believe that image was fairly early on and was after being oiled. Every time I oil them the chrome sheen really comes back out in the CXL.
This is a better pic of them in the daylight from about two months ago.

my new white's have arrived
8" lace to toe smoke jumper ( farmer-rancher cause of the non forestry approved sole. sole is vibram 430)
regular brown color - brown smooth.
here they are the morning after an obenaufing. I'll get some proper pictures of them when they're laced up and a little less tacky (sticky).

Tongue is the original color, I'm guessing? They didn't darken too much, if so.
