Every fucking year it's the same thing here in Minneapolis. The whole world knows the first heavy snowfall of the season is coming, but there's nary a clue of any active snowplows on the roadways. My morning commute was like playing bumper cars. Clear the fucking road, it's a damn blizzard for crying out loud!

DC wasn't that bad for me, I lived in the orange line. It was kinda nice. They have still not plowed, it's an absolute zoo out there. Thankfully I know all the back roads.

I'm from MA. Winter is no big deal to me, and neither is driving in the snow. Nobody around here knows how to drive in the snow, and they barely plow. During Snowmageddon, one neighborhood in the District went two weeks without being plowed. That blows.
I hope you have something fun to drive like an SUV or a subaru!

No man I have a 2 wheel drive coupe, but it is at least FWD. Driving in snow ain't a thing even though I grew up in MS. 7 winters here and I'm a pro. Plus it's not that hard in the first place.
My frustration is that they don't get the plows out EVER on the first heavy snow of the winter here, and there are consequently wrecks and jams all over the place. It's wild, a place like this that has to deal with so much snow seems like it would have a handle on it.

I think its interesting that no matter where I live, it always seems like no one knows how to drive in the snow/rain/whatever. I had an epiphany about it recently…..people are just bad drivers everywhere!
It's a Murphys Law I guess: "Regardless of how nice the weather is where you live, people will find a way to fuck up while driving"
-
Couldn't agree more. It could be completely dry and people will struggle with the basics. My theory is that driving is actually difficult for some people. Hard to wrap my head around that one.
-
I strongly believe that drivers in MA may be assholes, but they're very good at driving.
The worst drivers in the US in my opinion are from Maryland followed by Florida.
So McLain, they just don't plow at all? Are they trying to kill all the bad drivers with the first snow?
-
They have serious plowing and salting infrastructure here, it just takes them a long time to get it going on that first heavy snow. It's weird. Once it's up and going it's pretty damn good. It has to be or else everything would grind to a halt, we don't have a great public transit system.

Re-patching cabling in the DC today (due to 1 of my guys doing a sh!ty job, but that's another story). Anyhow, had headphones on playing music and also block out the ambient noise. Was fine for the 1st 2 hours of the work. Near the end, second last cable, when cutting the velcro strapping, I cut right through my headphone cable. Thankfully a) I bought headphones that have replaceable cables b) I have a spare cable incase such happened. Still annoying, and now another backup has had to of been purchased…

And Florida seems like it's either an octogenarian going 12 mph in the fast lane with the blinker on or some maniac in a rice rocket going 120 mph cutting people off and swerving between lanes.
Here in Minneapolis we have a lot of Somali immigrants (great people, this is not a slur) and some of them are new to driving and pedestrianism in cultures where we drive. This causes nightmares on the roads, especially, as you might imagine, come winter. People will be going down a one way street the wrong direction or just crossing a busy thoroughfare with their child in a stroller, not using a crosswalk, just ambling across a street with a 45 mph speed limit…
