White's Boots
-
On another note - anyone have soft toe Smoke Jumpers (on the standard SJ last)? Opinions? Pics? I'm about to pull trigger on a new pair of SJs and going back and forth on celastic vs. soft toe. This is the only picture I have ever come across… I have the soft toe on my Bounty Hunters (SD last) and like it.

Thanks for the feed back!
Thank you for sharing, bornheim. That surely would be a useful post for the shoe/boot care thread as well: http://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2737.0
I wasn't aware of that thread but when I get some time I'll re-write my post and add it to the shoe care thread.
Thanks again, I´ve continued in that thread - will try your stuff.

Anybody know if White's offers a leather similar to the waxed flesh offered by Viberg?
-
I don't know but here is a pic: http://viberg.com/products/country-derby-boot-brown-waxed-flesh - really hard to tell but someone like EastWest who has seen a lot of White's leathers may have an opinion.
-
that just looks like a waxed rough out leather. I'm sure that if you heavily waxed any of the White's rough out leathers they would look similar. When I treated my roughout boondockers I used snow seal - in areas of frequent abrasion the leather even shines. I'll have to take a pic tomorrow maybe. they look quite similar.

Thanks guys, wasn't sure if dubbing roughout would get the same effect or not.

Hi Ben, of all the samples I have or have had experience of so far from white's, none are similar really in texture. I agree with erk above, that effect/ texture looks, and from memory of other brands using a similar leather, and imagine would feel like a rough out (albeit after a slight shave) that's been waxed. Could be an interesting experiment?

Its a good question. I've got the new Wolverine 1000 Mile Morely boots in rough out. The toe and heel is supposedly waxed or burnished but it looks less like the application of wax (or, for e.g., dubbin) and more like the finish from a burnishing wheel with 'rouge' or something. However, it looks to me like the finish on the Viberg's is more a high quality waxing process (like applying dubbin) rather than all over burnishing.

One week till I gonna drop my next order, this time:
8" Smoke Jumper, standard SJ last
Plain toe
Harvest rough out leather all over, cream liner
Nickel hardware
Vibram 100 sole, single natty midsole
Any thoughts? -
I'd go with brass hardware for that color, but that's about all I'd change.

received this pair today-great boots.

Very nice.

I really want some roughouts

You and me both.

Excellent! Which leather is it? How does the double sole feel?
thank you. feels good (single midsole), leather is brown dress throughout.
