IRON HEART HIKE 2015
-
California is a long way for most to go, but I'll put my vote in for Mt. Whitney. Highest point in the continental US and a very strenuous (read IH tough) 22 mile day hike.

The hike is a great idea!
If that happens in Switzerland i'm in. If somewhere else, i try…The Jungfrau-Region is great. I wanted to do the "Bärentrek" this year, but that don't happend. it's a 6 day hike, but it's possible the make it in 4 days if your in real good shape, or to shorten it.
http://www.alpavia.ch/english/hiking_tours/baerentrek_e.htmi made some parts from the "Europaweg" this year, great sights to Matterhorn, Weisshorn, etc. There are some nice cottages with beds, drinks and food.
http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/interests/hiking1/on-the-europe-route-through-switzerland.htmlVia cook. That should be not that heavy and allrready doable in may or june. Both other trips are better from july to september, cause of the snow and some smaller trails.
http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/interests/hiking1/viacook.htmlIf you want to walk through a glacier, that's the one to do:
http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/interests/hiking1/glacier-hike-to-britannia-alpine-hut.html
Crampons aren't necessary. I made this route twice, it's impressive. But really not that heavy like they say in the myswitzerland-link.Or of course the region where i'm from:
http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/hiking-the-ridge-between-mts-saentis-and-altmann.htmlAnd if you want a really special handmade belt, Appenzell is the place to be: http://www.appenzell-ai.ch/sennen-sattlerei.html

great to see you in here Dave…really thought that someone is missing, now i know who
looking forward to this and since the Goruck-Challenge seams like it's dead, this would be a really nice alternative imo!Ciao Rafa. Thanks, i'm really looking forward to this one.
I've got many more ideas, but it's all about where, when and how long. -
guys, what do you say about the pyrenees?
it's french, it's spanish, it's atlantic ocean, it's mediterranean sea:
-
Well, it's currently snowing on Graemes picture from what I can see, maybe you'll be in luck

I've camped in Lauterbrunen, Switzerland (located in the Jungfrau region) and the view every morning was amazing. Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1_lauterbrunnen_valley_2012b.jpg. You are able to walk to the gondola to take you to the spot to start the hike to the Schilthorn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schilthorn. Part of James Bond film was actually shot on this mountain. This was a great all day hike.
