Mayor Ford is a piece of shit and a hypocrite. He continues to jail drug offenders even as an admitted crack head. He assaulted a woman, he allegedly paid some thugs to beat his brother in law up in jail to keep him quiet. I don't see how such vermin is in any way likeable. Entertaining perhaps but a stellar example of human scum.

I know the thread title, just adding perspective that may have been missed. Y'all should hear Torontoans talk about their mayor.

I don't like penny loafers or tassels on shoes.

I don't like moc toe anythings…
I don't like cap toe anythings either....

I think the new Robocop movie looks great
-
Same. The old was so damn great, a high bar. It looks like they won't try to replicate the schmaltzy humor, which is good because part of what made that work I think was the period in which the film was made.
-
The original was my favourite movie as a teenager.

having previously lived in toronto and having a lot of friends who still live there, any praise would come from a very vocal minority, or with a very ironic tone. most citizens of toronto and canada are ashamed of rob ford, and cannot wait for him to be gone. you also forgot to mention that he has been strongly tied anthony smiths murder (obviously not the act itself) he is a real scumbag
-
you can't say you dont like musicals until you see the evil dead musical
rob ford is a champ, how can one man fuck up soooooo much?
you guys also forgot that he doesn't think cyclists have a right to be on the road and if they get hit it's their fault
or the football scandal
attacking reporters
screaming like a maniac at the other people in city council
flipping off citizens and reading the news paper while driving

It's amazing the license that being a Chris Farley clone can get you in regards to buffoonery.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is overrated. Yeah, the books were good, more or less, but the movie adaptation wasn't. The camera trickery to make hobbits and dwarves wasn't believable, the orcs and other assorted bad creatures were just laughable and the entire thing should have been edited down by about 20%. It was boring and now Peter Jackson has free rein to indulge himself in vomiting out 3 hour special effects craptaculars, which should be a crime against humanity.
-
I'm the other way, really enjoyed the movies and hated the books. Tolkien was a linguist and wrote much of his work as a literary exercise in inventing a language (Elvish). The narrative is clunky and he has a tendency to over describe everything, the first chapters of LOTR are a prime example, I couldn't even make it through them these days.
Related: The Star Wars movies (all of them) are massively overrated, George Lucas cannot write scripts or dialogue and don't even get me thinking about his ability as a director. From the same time period the Indiana Jones movies were far superior, apart from the last one which raped my childhood.
-
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull does not exist.
I read the LOTR books when I was a kid, and they were mostly enjoyable. I tried to do it again before the movies were released and I gave up halfway through The Two Towers. They were still better than the movies. And turning The Hobbit into 3 movies had absolutely no purpose other than to steal money from fools.
As for the Star Wars trilogy, you're largely right. Star Wars was a poor (but entertaining) movie. The Empire Strikes Back was moderately better, which I chalk up to being the only one Lucas didn't infect by directing himself. The less said about the ridiculous Return of the
Care BearsJedi, the better. Everything that came after, books, comics, tv series, the horrifying "prequel" trilogy, video games, etc. just further chips away at anything good there may have been in those 3 movies. -
Which version of the original trilogy are we talking about? No matter how you go, over rated I would agree, but I wouldn't call theoriginal takes bad movies either. As to the directing, I agree, the dude got way lucky with a story people took to enough that they have credited him way too much.
-
With you Mega most of that, but I love the original Star Wars despite Lucas' ineptitudes. And Lucas executive produced at least Raiders if not all of them, so gotta give him some love.
Raiders has the finest scoring in cinematic history.
-
This fucked my enjoyment of Raiders to a degree. I can't watch it without thinking of this and picking apart the movie.
-
I mean the original theatrical release only. Every re-edit afterwards is shit.
And executive producing just means writing a fat check. No creative input given or recognition deserved.
