White's Boots
-
Aho - I kind of dig the contrast with the yellow laces and no kiltie - but maybe a bit over the top. Check some of these out - still a pop of color, but a bit less of a statement - you might see something else you'd like. http://www.benjos.com/work-boot-laces/
I like the way the leather laces look, but I don't like the functionality - I have a hard time getting them in the hooks - I just hate f'ng with them. I'm lazy.

You can also make your own laces. That's what I did.
I tracked down an ebay seller who sells waxed cotton lace by the metre. He usually adds a metal tip for the length you want. The metal tips are crap so order them untipped, or remove the metal tip. Then buy yourself some heat shrink tubing, a tea light candle, and make your own lace-end tips. And that's it.
That's what I did on these boots. OK these tips are a little long, but you can do them any length you want and/or change them any time:

Need some help. Looking for a work boot and Im very interested in a pair of 6" height White's. Looking for help sourcing either a pair of SJ lace to toe, Northwest or Cougars.
Really like rough out but Im leaning against that option due to the amount of saw dust and oil they will probably see. A little info. I work in a busy wood/welding shop and my personal shop is mostly automotive welding/fabrication so they will see a lot of use. I would use a site like bakers to just build them but I wish I could see good comparisons of material and finish to make a decision. Just trying to avoid an all black boot (thats what I normally do. Want to switch it up), want a Vibram 2021 sole. Thinking of either a natural, red dog, or Horween Navy Chomexel with a double midsole, rolled top, then debate on steel toe or not.
Here are two I randomly came across online or instagram a while back and took screen shots of.
First ones I believe were a special Japan only run a while ago. Eventhough Im trying to avoid all black and rough out they look amazing
These second ones would be pretty much be perfect except I would like all brass eyes and no hooks.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

For the environment you described, I wouldn't recommend the chromexel. It's nice, but not the toughest leather. The red dog should withstand a lot of abuse.

I have the Reddog RO and Black Smooth/ Oil RO on on my boots, I waxed the Reddog RO and it became very soft but still very thick, the Black RO was so stiff, needed some time to break in, and it´s still not fully broken in.
IMO you should go with the Smooth/ Oil leather, very nice stuff!
Distressed Smooth is very nice too, thick but very dry. -
Thank you all, that nudge in the right direction helps a lot. I will just try to google those different leather options and see if pics come up. Also, JCMx800 since you said the black RO was tough I actually may get my first pair in Red Dog, and since I want to order another if I like them, may do the next in all black RO and just wear them on mostly welding days at both shops. Do you have any pics of yours?
Also, does anyone know what leather was used on the second pair that I posted that I found on instagram?
Thanks a ton for the help.

My guess is the brown smooth, aka brown oil tan. It is usually a bit duller when new (mine was, at least) but can develop that shine with a little wear and care. It's one of the standard leather for Smokejumpers and it's really tough and thick. For comparison, heres a pic of my Farmer/Rancher in brown smooth:

Waxed RD RO
RD RO vs Black RO

BRG, you could consider a waxed black roughout as well if you like that look. I really like JCM's waxed red dog. And for sure roughout can take a beating - I've read it actually resists scratches and cuts more than the smooth leathers. The pic you posted looks like a lace-to-toe cougar, but it could be a LTT SJ with a wedge sole. Hard to tell…

JCM thanks for the pics. Only bad thing is they pretty much ensured I will be purchasing another pair of black boots. I was trying to avoid that but I think black RO vamp and shaft, with black dress counter on lace to toe Cougars would be amazing. I will probably do that as my second pair, thinking I need Red Dog Silicone smoke jumpers first for work.
Thank you all a ton for your help. Im sure I will have a few more questions before the final build before purchase though.

imo, less is more. I consistently sing the praises of the dress leather because in my experience it is Whites most durable leather and ages really well.
When all the CXL boots have long since been retired I look forward to continuing to shine up my Bounty Hunters and laughing like a drunk pirate.
