Viberg

@derivative666 What size in oak street do you wear compared to the size of your hikers?
-
I wear 11 in OSB. Viberg Service Boots 2030 last and Boondockers 2045 last fit perfect and are 10.5. My hikers are 10.5 and tight.
-
Just got my hikers back. They didn't take any damage (who would've thought that). Can't say I do notice a big difference, but they definitely feel a bit wider. As the old issues turnd up after a long time of walking I'm not sure if it's good now. But it feels better.
-
Let me know after mile 10 lol.
-
That won't happen before my holiday in two weeks. That's why I went for that cowards option anyway. I think they would have been perfect after some months.
-
I will have mine back on Monday and then time to put the work in on them. Will have to do many many many 5 mile hikes to break them in.
-
Vibergs new last (1035 - a slightly more forgiving 2030 that is less narrow) is looking pretty sweet: http://www.superdenim.com/prodpage.asp?productid=3927

anybody know the likelihood that a pair of horsebutt engineers (like the vmc collab) will be made again? i'm needing some serious footwear…
-
This has no basis, but I'm honestly sick of hearing CXL. I feel like everybody and their mother makes every god damn thing out of cxl. I feel like steerhide/horsehide/horsebutt are way more badass leathers… if viberg does a black 9" horsehide engineer on the 2005 last I think I have to get it.
-
^ My guess is that while there is a big demand for a leather than shows wear quickly and molds very easily to the person's foot, CXL will continue to be a significant offering from bootmakers. It's hard to beat for comfort. I'm wearing my Alden 403 as I type this and at only 9 months of rotated wear they are like slippers.
-
I have the shinki horsehide engineers they released early this year - they are badass for sure. But CXL has it's place in my wardrobe - my viberg boondockers, my White's, several belts… It ain't for no reason so many bootmakers and leather artisans use it... A buddy of mine has a pair of black CXL White's nomads and they are like butter.

CXL is just a tannage, it's not implicitly cowhide nor mutually exclusive to steer, horse, or horsebutt. I do think they would never CXL a shell though, instead they would use their similar cordovan tannage.
I get the "tired of CXL" thing, just pointing that out.
For those who are into authenticity, horse wasn't a common boot hide for engineers (since you mentioned engineers). Not that I wouldn't love a pair!

the look of giles viberg-horse-engeneers is quite unbeatable.
if you compare his horse with my cxl, the horse wins bigtime, imo. -
The only pair of CXL boots I've ever owned, I sold (navy Viberg service boots). Compared to the olive latigo leather in my other pair of Viberg service boots, they just weren't very impressive. That leather is excellent, and it just seems to stay beautiful, despite wear and neglectful maintenance.

Hey G, speaking of your horse engineers, how about posting a pic of them when you get a chance. I'm curious to see how they are looking these days.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI will post pics next week. I am selling them…...

here's mine 9" Engineer, Black Horween Horsebutt, 2005 last, no toe box. 1 year in rotation and counting, still stiff and fighting. ::)
