IH-666-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Slim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
Just got my first pair of Iron Hearts a few weeks ago. They're definitely the toughest pair of bottoms I've ever owned and yet denim feels so soft and great!
I seem to be having the same problem as aztecraws though. A hole has developed above the top button hole. Should I stop wearing them until I can get it fixed?
-
That is n issue we see occasionally with the 25oz. The yarn is so wide that the button hole stitch perfectly goes over just one yarn (not a good thing). We are working out how to alter the button holer. What has happened to yours is not good, let me chat to Haraki. I did send him an email after you original PM, but did not get a reply, I think he is run ragged getting ready for Bread and Butter. I have hassled him again….G

Yes Notwithit, it is difficult to put things in and take them out, but they are reinforced!
Thanks, that's very helpful.
Now the agonizing question and subsequent soul-searching for an answer that can only be found within:
- IH-666-XHS
- IH-634-XHS
- IHXB01-25 (sized up one, I think)
I like a slimmer leg opening, but I don't want to sacrifice the functionality of the front pockets. Right now I'm leaning toward the 634s and seeing if Railcar Fine Goods can taper them to < 7.5" (sacrilege, I realize, but perhaps the compromise I'm looking for).

Hey guys, so new to this forum but usually over on /r/rawdenim. These IH-666 are something I've been on the fence over making a pair of ultra-heavies, and with the deal this weekend it's even more enticing. But I've always been on the fence with the measurements. I read through at least 100 of the pages on this thread, but couldn't find anyone really discussing these things:
The main thing is that they measure less-slim/tapered than other 666 denims. Generally I like somewhere between 14.5-15" opening at the hem, with these in the 16.5-17" range. Now, I know super-slim isn't what IH is about, but they do have other 666s listed more in the 15-15.5" range. But I have runners thighs (thick) and chicken ankles (super thin). Are people finding that the openings are as wide as listed, and is it that the super thick denim is making them measure as wider, but the opening itself is actually much slimmer.
Also, how are people sizing for the high-rise. Another feature of these that I love, a proper rise. On normal jeans, I like to target them to end up right at 32.5". So I'm in between buying the 31s or the 32s. They'll stretch up to an inch, but the higher rise means they're up over my hipbone, which throws wrench into the question.
Anyway, thanks for any thoughts folks might have.

Ah, that's a good thing to know. I figured measurements were accurate, I was thinking more like they might have such super thick hems that the fabric bulk could add an extra .5" or so to the hem measurements. Requesting the smallest hem though might do the trick for getting the most tapered possible. Still just have to figure out whether I'd want 31 or 32 then… which is the perennial question with any pair of raws, of course.
Anyway, thanks!

Hi Guys. Can anyone provide some guidance on how much stretch can be achieved in the thigh? Am looking at tag 32 in the 666 XHS where the thigh measurement on website is 11.8. My true thigh is 12. In the past I've stretched jeans from 11.5 to 12 but I know this is a totally different ball game. Is this doable or am I kidding myself?

Giles gave me the same answer more or less on the 555 fit. I have chicken legs, so the 666 fit isn't quite tapered enough usually, at least how they measure on the site.
However, I saw Giles mention at one point that the Japanese cut was slightly different than the global cut, slightly shorter (not sure if it's the same pattern, just hemmed, or a different pattern). Regardless I checked the measurements on Rakuten, and sure enough, they were much more tapered. So I ordered a pair, size 31 with a waist measured about 31.75", hem about 8" or so, inseam about 35". Definitely a lot more tapered, and shouldn't require any extra hemming. Only reason I went through Japan was for the fit, FWIW.
They made it out for delivery in NY in literally 2 days. Jeeeeeze. I shipped them to work, which is closed for the weekend, so I won't get them until Monday, but it's summertime anyway. They'll keep for a couple of months. These are my first IH, and an awesome way to step up vs. my 18oz. Gonna be awesome.
