Gustin
-
I see pairs of Gustins from time to time at a couple consignment shops for like $30-40 new. Quality of the ones I've seen are worse than Naked&Famous and APC. Not even nice enough to buy for $30 imho, but people like what they like I guess.

As a point of fact. There is no way they can make a chore coat out of Ventile for that price. The cost of materials would tend towards the price of the coat. There is one source (world wide) for genuine Ventile and I'm prepared to eat a pair of 25oz jeans if they are using it….

Yo, whatsup with your boner for gustin?
A lot of folks near me have the same boner for Raleigh Denim
I imagine a lot of people in the Southwest (AZ), and around the US, are getting boners for Lawless Denim.
I've never seen a kickstarter campaign get so over funded so fast. Another kickstarter denim company (like Gustin) but you can customize each pair of jeans individually and I find their choices of denim are more interesting than Gustin. No disrespect to Gustin. I like them too and have purchased their products. We may need a Lawless thread soon…

It is not Ventile….
They call it #8 Japan cloth 8.3oz.
That is not Ventile. It is what Haraki and I call Jentile. It is a Ventile look-a-like made in Japan.
Nowhere on the product page do they say "Ventile"
& BTW, I am not knocking what they are doing or what they are using, I am just pointing out that it aint Ventile....

Yeah, that's what "trademark difficulties" mean- it ain't real.
-
Yes. If it was Ventile, they'd call it Ventile…..People are inclined to think that Ventile is a fabric descriptor like denim. It is not, Ventile is a trademarked product, much like BMW or Ford.
Edit - Chris got there first...
Think of it like this. Rolls Royce is a car, a car is not a Rolls Royce...

It's this, so no.

Interesting; Just to play Devil's Advocate, 8.3oz fabric weight as listed on the Gustin site would be 281.42gsm. Ventile does not list that weight on their Web site:

I guess if it's Ventile it would be called Ventile, if not then it's something else albeit similar as the guys have explained.
I would be little concerned that it is being advertised as something it's not.
I would compare Gustin products to similarly priced products in terms of assessing "value" but that said, when it comes to denim for example, with Iron Heart I always know absolutely surely what it is I'm getting. That's part of the premium. I have a pair of Gustin jeans that I took a gamble on. To be fair they were what I expected however were I expecting the same quality for less as I know i would be getting with IH then I would be disappointed. With IH I have never been disappointed and set high standards in expectation of any order.
Anyway, good luck to them though, to say it again, I would not be enamoured with presenting a product that is not what it actually claims to be, on principle.

New to IH (haven't even bought a pair yet) but thought this might be a good place to start. I've got 5 pairs of Gustin and a few other similar brands. But want to move up to a big boy pair of jeans and figured IH has the best reputation. What can I expect? I'd like something in a 18-20oz, tapered, and let's just say a denim that's interesting. I'm just starting my research for my perfect pair.

@DugG personally I'm a fan of the IH over dyed denim but that's just me!
