Thank you -

If you're after fish and chips in central London, then I can recommend Golden Union, which is at the top of Poland Street, just off Oxford Street.
They cook their chips in a mixture of duck fat and vegetable oil, and they're very good.

Been there yum yum

Ok, it turns out that the latest BFI LFF is showing the latest film by one of my favourite directors: Jim Jarmursch. Sorted. I will be in London from 18:00-ish 19th October until 12:00-ish 21st October.
Looking forward to it already, this will be the closest I get to a holiday this year.

Greetings folks!
I'm traveling to London for the 1st time in the upcoming week (from San Francisco). Besides doing the all day tours, I want to check out some reggae clubs as well. Would anyone here have any recommendations of which venue to check out?
Hopefully I get to visit Rivet & Hide and other cool shops.

Resurrecting this thread.
I haven't been to London since 1994 when I was stationed in England. Planning on a trip beginning of December. Any suggestions on what area to stay in and stores is appreciated.

Regarding stores (depending what you are into) and off the top of my head:
-
Near Carnaby Street / Soho: American Classics / Great Frog / End Clothing / Foot Patrol / Maharishi / Place on Wardour Street that does JMM / Wood Wood
-
Piccadilly: Snow Peak / Dover Street Market / Nearby is Jermyn Street (Trickers / Crockett and Jones)
-
Mayfair: Drakes (Saville Row) / Real McCoys (now appointment only)
-
Tottenham Court Road End of Oxford Street: Rivet and Hide / Lewis Leathers
-
Between Oxford Street and Marylebone: Clutch Cafe
-
Marylebone: Trunk Clothiers (great little store but only been there a few times) / Monocle / Various places that stock JMM
-
Covent Garden: Honestly fuck all these days, except Crazy Pig (jewellery). American Classics has relocated to Carnaby St.
-
Knightsbridge: Grand Seiko Store
-
Shoreditch: Good Hood / Sneakerstuff / Various other stores that are also near Carnaby Street / used to be a great store on Rivington St but name escapes me (Sunnysiders I think)
-
Truman Brewery (near Shoreditch), closest Tube is Liverpool Street: Various sample sales often at Truman Brewery / Son of a Stag / You Must Create
Hope that is helpful.

Thanks Cutlasshound. That's really helpful. Appreciate you taking the time to write it up.
Wondering if staying in Soho or around Oxford Circus is my best bet. -

Wondering if staying in Soho or around Oxford Circus is my best bet.I would suggest Soho or Shoreditch to stay in, both are good locations to get around from and both have excellent food options
