I just got some happy news on this lazy Sunday - Fed Ex was out making deliveries to avoid the holiday rush. I got these beauties right at 13 weeks and 1 day from the order date.
These are custom Boss boots, 9" height, all burgundy domain leather, unlined, Vibram 100 sole with brown stained edge, 1 lift lowered heel, 9109 bump toe last, stock Wesco roller buckles, standard upper straps and 2" longer instep straps.
I'm really happy with these - and relieved that I got the fit right. I went with an E vs. my normal D width, wanting to be sure I could get them on/off easily, and they are perfect. Tightened the instep strap one notch, and they fit like a glove. These are much more comfortable out of the box than my Packers.
The domain leather is awesome, well worth the up-charge imo.

Merry Christmas to you, Bluegrass Loving the bump toe last lately. When ya get a sec, pls post a shot or two of the side profile. I'm especially interested to see how the lowered heel looks.
-
They look incredible.

Thanks guys. Seems like it takes forever for the weeks to tick by, but it sure is a happy day when Fed Ex finally rings the bell…
@Bretro_ here are some side views of lowered heel. At 6'7" I just don't need all that heel, plus I think it kind of accentuates the bump toe. At least that's what I was hoping.

Damn sharp dood. And already makin me think of my next build
Should probably at least pay for the Attractions first tho haha

Question for anyone who has an opinion to share…
A friend of mine put so much oil (not sure what, a Red Wing product I think) on the lower portion of his brand new, regular brown Wesco harness boots that they literally turned black. It's really quite remarkable - you'd never know they were initially brown, but you can clearly see the difference in color vs. the shafts which he did not butter up. Any ideas how to reverse this and get them back closer to the original color?
I'm afraid (and he is too) that he permanently screwed them up.
-
God damn bluegrass, those are hardcore! If I were you, i'd replace those buckles with something that follows the shape of the boot better, like these:
-
I agree @grandmasterben - the buckles are below the standard of the boot - any idea where to source those?
-
So the ones in the pic are from takeshi of hukurokuju fame, and in not quite sure how you'd get them.
I'm sure that somebody could chime in though….
-
I'm afraid (and he is too) that he permanently screwed them up.
I think you're right. Perhaps they will lighten with age and usage and they'll get closer to the original color, but I don't you can get them back to the original color without doing something drastic and potentially damaging to the leather.
-
Zip Stevenson has some serious buckles for those beauties too man.
Oiling the soles that way was not a good idea. If he wanted them black they make products for staining soles that won't compromise the glue holding the soles together. I don't think your friend's misstep is easily reversed. But they can be resoled.
-
It's not the soles. it's the whole lower portion of the boots. And no, he didn't want them to turn black - he just got carried away thinking he was "protecting" them - and now a previously gorgeous pair of boots look like shit now, imo. Blows my mind - why treat a brand new pair of boots at all… my packers are the same leather and it's an oily soft leather in the base case.
And thanks for lead on the buckles - I will follow up.
-
nice build @Bluegrass
not a fan of the treads for soles but the lowered heel looks awesomesauce
sorry bout your friend & his boots. i think the leather is more likely than not just super soaked & they are going 2 have 2 "dry-out" naturally & as they do they will regain a bit of the original color. maybe he should contact the good folks @ WESCO & they can give him a bit more sound advice? suckz when u sooo hyped to get something & then u goof & do something like that.
here's my
a$$holemonday question. does he just soak the other boot so at least they matchbut i'm serious, oh & images wouldn't hurt as a warning 2 others
