Watches - another OCD problem
-
A dream deferred… they made a prototype with the "Homeplate" face and a rotating bezel but it never went to market and instead had a fixed tachymeter ring (my preference on the watch).

My guess on the 45 minute timer is that people were doing a lot of drugs back then.

^^This is true. Other watches catch my eye, but I always come back to the Speedmaster Professional as the "I'm going to sell all my other watches and buy just one to wear forever" watch. It's an undeniable classic.
-
Yes, the Speedy Pro is just a superb watch. It was my gateway drug. It's a classic design and works as well as any watch ever could as the one watch to own if you could own no other.
-
If you do get a Speedy, never sell it. I had a "Moon to Mars" and regret selling it the hour after I shipped it. The Snoopy Speedy is calling, but since we just booked an Alaskan cruise for next summer, it ain't happening.

Speedy Date is that watch for me. Very versatile.

Any cool 2nd hand places for watches? I don't need something rare or something ultra over engineered, I just need a good working long lasting everyday watch

I have bought from Bernardwatch.com before and found them very trustworthy.

One more time: http://www.watchrecon.com/
And I'll just add that my Citizen Eco-Drive watch is more accurate than my Raymond Weil was… For about a quarter of the price... Not bad... The titanium bracelet is showing a lot less wear and tear than I thought it would as well...
Might be something you wanna keep an eye out for, JCMx800...

nice work @ben2t

S.O.B. just what I need another obsession. Put the credit card down slowly and step away…

^It's not an obsession @steelworker , it's a lifestyle

What's your climate? If very hot / tropical then I'd go for rubber or metal, as leather will deteriorate very quickly. If mostly cooler temperatures, then it's just personal preference. I usually prefer metal bracelets for the majority of the time, but I've got some Bergeon strap tools and change straps / bracelets pretty frequently.

And believe me, watches sting the bank account harder than IH. My only advice for watches is that if something really has your eye, don't settle for anything less. It is never the same and eventually you'll get what you wanted anyway.

And believe me, watches sting the bank account harder than IH.
I can sadly attest to this!

I too have learnt this lesson the hard way. IH (and this thread in particular) is a gateway drug to watches. Be careful.
