Luggage Bags and Packs

The IH backpack looks nice. I particularly like the chest strap, which is a really useful addition for motorcyclists.
Carryology has an overview of a bunch of retro / heritage style packs.

I particularly like the Azo Equipment Bashilo.
And the Francli Activity Rucksack.

Does anyone own something by TOPO Designs? There stuff looks great (I want the Rover Micro and the Duffel 24).
-
I don't own anything by Topo, but I've had a good look at a few of their bags and they seem solidly made. I don't think that you'll have any problems if you get one.
I have to agree. Well made, not cumbersomely heavy, and priced well.

After ideas for a travel bag mid size. One that could just squeeze on as carry on. Cheers

Are you in Oz these days Todd? If so, you'll be constrained by the 105 cm carry-on limits.
My suggestions for fitting into that box would be:
-
Defy Bags VerBockel. Other colours are available.
-
Tom Bihn Aeronaut 30 or Tristar. @Snowy had a Brain Bag, and was unhappy, so maybe avoid these.
-
Red Oxx build indestructible bags. @ddtrash has one, and would recommend them. The Sky Train would probably fit into the Aussie carry on regulations if not over-full.
-
The De Bruir Parachuter Bag looks really cool. You'd probably need to downsize to a Medium for the budget airlines though.
-
The Topo Designs Travel Bag is a full-sized carry on, so might not work on Jetstar. Also look at their Flap Pack.

Any recommendations for full veg tan messenger bag?
-
I'm also looking for a recommendation, but for a duffel bag.
I'm leaning Duluth pack sportsmen duffel right now, with a Filson small duffel a close second. I already have a couple other Duluth pack bags and they've been rock solid. Additionally, I'm in MN so supporting a local company is a plus.
Any other's I should be aware of in the same general canvas and leather style?
-
The Filson is a beast but very slouchy and smells strongly of the treatment wax. Mine is 8+ years old and still makes everything I put in it a little waxy and fragrant

@DenimMaven Defy do a few leather messenger type bags. They haven't got any natural, vegetable tanned ones listed, but they've got a relationship with Horween so I'm sure you could ask them to get some natural Essex in. The Abe Lincoln leather is due to make a comeback in the next few months.
This is the Recon in oxblood.
And the Workcase in black.
@Segovia Defy also do duffel bags in canvas. The R&R Weekender in desert tan.
And the Ultimate Overnighter in grey.
They're also available in other colours (olive green and brown have just featured on their Instagram feed), leather, and Cordura. I've got a VerBockel coming in the next couple of weeks, so can report back then.
