I have the same problem with my IHxB01's. Always another pair distracting me, and yet every time I put them on I fall in love all over again.

Hi guys, rookie question here, what's the difference between the 634 and 634S? The "S" is for selvedge, what I don't know is, will the standard 634 fade differently, or what makes the 634S dearer? Again,I am a heavy denim rookie, and I just need a laymen's explanation of why I should or shouldn't get the 634 or the 634S. I've got 2 pair of gustin which are put the best cut on me, and 2 fantastic pairs of Lawless Denim jeans that I'm assured are really awesome. Sadly,I can't tell, as I never recieved them. I'm also in between sizes. Should I size up or down? Thanks for any help guys. I've been really focused on jackets and boots for the last few years, and this is my first attempt at high quality denim.
Cheers. -
Size down. The 21oz denim will stretch as much as you need it to. Selvage denim is more expensive to manufacture, but isn't inherently better. The non-selvage 21oz is just as high quality, but it is slightly different and will therefore fade slightly differently. Not better or worse, just different.

Cheers.Selvedge has more slub/character and then there is the selvedge line that we all know and presumably love. Non-s is more uniform, windproof, water resistant, tighter weave, and easier to weave. Both fade well.

That's great info. Thanks guys. I'm also looking seriously at the overdye 634 at self edge…they look pretty exciting.
The overdyes are amazing. The 21oz selvedge fabric is awesome as well, I highly recommend both. I'm curious why you're looking at the overdye on SE as opposed to right here though. IHUK carries the overdye as well

Hi all,
I just had a question about the 634S, hope it's okay that I ask here…
The question is - how much difference is there between the selvedge 634 ("634S") and the non-selvedge 634 ("634")?
I am just asking because I see people talking about the 634S saying how soft the denim is, how it's so breathable etc. I bought the plain "634" from Japan, I was not familiar with all the peculiarities of Iron Heart & just assumed they were all the same (selvedge). Well these ones were super-tough, pretty uncomfortable with my leg bent riding a motorbike it felt like the denim was cutting into the back of my knees on longer rides. I try to wear them as much as I can, but I don't even wear them every weekend. I haven't washed them yet - they still look basically brand new (aside from a bit of mud on the back of the legs from last w'end...) but the really stiff feeling is starting to leave the denim.
I bought them because they were a fair bit cheaper than any other 634 I could find (now I know why, selvedge Vs. not). They were advertised/listed/labelled as 634, no mention of selvedge so that's fine, I can't be mad that I was sold a mis-labelled or mis-represented product.
I'm wondering if the 634S will be much more breathable, and a bit softer? I live in Australia so having something that's a bit less sweaty makes a difference! Also I really wanted selvedge...
What can I do with these current 634, will they just soften up a bit more after the first wash? They're still a good pair of jeans so of course I'm going to keep wearing them! But might make them a real work pair and see how they go (I've never had a real premium pair of jeans like this before).
Thanks for sharing your IH insights!
Cheers

@mugget - what you are describing is pretty much exactly what the traditional 21oz denim is supposed to be - windproof, stiff and heavy - My indigo rider jacket is made of the same stuff and it looks almost new every times I wear it, and I've had it more than a year and wear regularly.
The "S" versions are very "soft" compared to other 21oz denim, even the Non-S IH 21oz, but it's not "blanket soft" until you break them in - it will take a little while also.
If you really want the Selvedge versions, I would suggest putting your Non-S version on the marketplace and see if someone would like to try them out. Then use the funds from the sale to fund a pair of 634S from IHUK
Out of curiosity, what size are your Non-S model?

Or just throw them in the dryer while they're still damp.
