The (Less intimidating) Watch Thread

Slightly obnoxious but accurate and tough as nails. Apparently these GPS Gravitymaster G Shocks were spec’d for the RAF

My non-traditional/digital watch submission that I lust over is this mofo here:
The Suunto Traverse Alpha
If all considerations were equal, I would spend the money on this before a mechanical watch, but alas the GPS and Bluetooth functions prevents me from being able to wear it to the office.

Got into it with one of my buddies recently about digital vs mechanical.
"Your watch is soulless"
"If my digital watch is soulless, your mechanical watch is brainless"
Went over as well as I thought it would.
Digital watches are underrated in today's market. I still love mechanical, but digital's advantages should not be ignored.

Having learned a modest amount about watches in the past several months, I totally get the engineering that goes in to it all, and it's nothing short of amazing. But, as far as "bang for my buck", usefulness and practicality, digital wins. I set a goal to get a "nice entry level watch" this year, but at this moment I can't see myself dropping dosh on a what would basically be a piece of jewelry.
But, still just say no to smartwatches.

A smartwatch has it's place too. My wife wears an cellular enabled smartwatch instead of carrying a phone a lot of the time. Made me crazy when she didn't carry her phone when she went on hikes with the dogs. If one of them got hurt, she would have no way to reach me and she's not carrying a 140lb dog back to the house.

I work on a military base.
I don't work on a secret compound, but some local commanders have formed a more extreme interpretation on how this should be handled since the initial guidance was pushed out after this story broke. Better safe than sorry, I guess

We're very proud of the fact that our bracelets, rings and key chains are still GPS-Free! Bless this old-world tech and those who still love it.

By no means new, but the Hamliton Khaki pilot watch can be had in quartz or automatic day/date chronograph for less than $500. Without being able to speak to the quality and reliability of the movements, that seems to me to be a good deal, a large-faced, classic (and IMO attractive) design.

IMO those are the best, or among the best (not an expert), budget watch choices in the market.
