The german Fall was 100% deserved, too many "old" (after that defintion i am old too) Players, too many negative Headlines before (Political Stuff) and probably a hard Season for some Players (e.g. the Bayern loose to Frankfurt) arent the Way to go if one wants to win a World Cup. Now we have to Restart and dissmiss some 80s and early 90s Kids for some Fresh Blood.

Condolences to England. I really wanted it to "come home," though were I superstitious, all that premature talk of such would have given me pause.

Some friends are trekking across France for the next month, so I  tempted to pull for them just so that they'll have the experience, but I struggle not to pull for the scrappy underdog.

Congratulations to Croatia and good luck in the finals. Your mettle and endurance impress.

The third place final is a joke. The result is meaningless for fans and it must feel like an empty exercise for players who have just lost the possibility of playing in a the actual final.

The national leagues have made finishing second (and third and fourth) a virtue through prize money and participation in the UCL and the like, but in cup competitions, and especially the World Cup, first is everything, second is nothing. Third and fourth place shouldn’t even be an issue.
