The Real McCoys

@twin you definitively should. And have a coffee at father carpenter nearby.
-
@Max Power I definitively will stop at both places and try them out

Any of you own the N1 deck jacket? Curious why the hand warmer pockets sit so high on the jacket? I know RMC is a repro brand so maybe this had a practical use in the navy but I don't know what that is Seems like the pockets should sit lower to my eyes

Does anyone own a RMs 1st pattern M65? I'm torn between waiting for the new IH iteration, Buzz Ricksons, and the Real Mccoys. At almost £200 More than the IH and BR, is the RC really as great as on line reviews say? It is the only version that I've physically held in my hand.
I've only owned a made in USA alpha industries version before (about 4 of them over the years, including a 1968 original).

Anyone have one of the RMC down vests? I am looking at the nylon down vests (https://www.realmccoyslondon.com/us/joe-mccoy-66-nylon-down-vest-navy.html) but am unsure on sizing… I normally wear L in IH work shirts and XL in Westerns... based on the RMC measurements I think I am either a 40 or 42... how do you guys usually size RMC vs IH for tops?
Thanks!

All I can say is that the IH cotton ones are very substantial. RMC seeks to replicate the original, which was a mass-produced item procured on a taxpayer-funded budget. Based on the images, the fabric looks to me to be a bit lighter weight, but that's based on how it drapes and how military issued M65s are. I would suspect that the RMC variant is fairly close to Alpha overall, with greater attention to quality.
If it were me, I'd go IH because I'd want it to be a bit more overbuilt and am not especially concerned about authenticity. Loved mine and regret having sold it from time to time. I say this as someone who cherishes his RMC flight and deck jackets.

Almost weirdly, I didn't need to upside from 40 on my deck jacket, which has a thick alpaca lining. Almost always with Japanese clothing I go up at least a size. Not sure if this holds true for their vests, but my guess without seeing measurements would be 42.

@tangfj I don’t own any IH shirtings but looking at the online measurements of their work shirts, I would likely be a medium. My RMC nylon 66 down vest is size 38 and my RMC M-65 is size medium. I tried on the vest size 40 in the store and chose the smaller 38 size as I wanted it to be closer fitting because I wasn’t going to wear thick bulky items underneath but mainly sweats and shirts.

Thanks guys. Got a size 40 from S&S… kind of fits like a glove on me. Might be a little bit too small?
I might try a size 42 to see if it fits any better. Looks like Frans Boone in the Netherlands may have one in stock from my searches... anyone ever bought from them before?
-
looks like the correct size to me!
-
@tangfj Your fit is similar to how mine is on me. The next size up would allow me (you) to comfortably wear e.g. denim jacket underneath whereas the current size would be very snug. I guess it really comes down to how and when you are gonna wear with it and accept that at times, some outfits would had suited the other vest size instead. Or just go full retard and buy both sizes…

We sold out of the N-1 Deck Jacket a few months back, not before I grabbed one of them for myself in Size 40.
It's probably my favourite jacket ever and I agree the pockets look a little high in photos but they're super comfortable and your arms just sorta hang there. One of my best friends found a deadstock USN issue jacket complete with unopened cigarettes and matches a few years back. The Mc Coy's version is definitely insanely accurate as a repro, as everything they do is, the one noticeable difference for me is the Alapca lining / collar on the Mc Coy's version is much more comfortable. -

Looks perfect to me! Are you still wearing the 40 or did you go with the 42?

@Max Power me and the family had brunch in Father Carpenter on our recent trip to Berlin.. very tasty indeed!!
-
@chiverus cool, happy to hear that.
Meanwhile, heres an update of my most worn pair in the last months. 991bk -
@Max Power looks awesome! what IH model would you say the 991BK are similar too?
-
@futura thanks! I guess the 633. They have a medium rise, rather large thighs, nice but not drastic taper. A good 60s cut imo.
