Nine Lives

Don't they have a phone# listed on their site? I've never ordered from them but they seem active on IG. Maybe try contacting them that way? I don't know about sales tax but if you live in California then my guess is you'd see that charge. Out of state purchases though should not be charged sales tax.
There is no way to contact them via the website. I also sent @tokyoGringo a PM through the forum.

Well the good news is that I got the package today and I love the shirt. Zero notice that it was inbound so I didn’t know it was en route. Also was shipped direct from Japan so still don’t understand why I was charged state and local sales tax on the purchase.
All in all, a happy ending!

I'm not familiar with tax laws, so I can only assume that if Nine Lives is registered as a business in the state of California and sends a package to CA residents then any business transaction is taxable. I get taxed on Amazon orders because they have a physical presence here in MN.

Glad the shirt worked out. The fact it took a month with zero communication is pretty inexcusable though. I'll probably think twice before buying 9L again.

@gaseousclay Good point - I did an entity search and they are setup in Cali so it appears an inbound international shipment to a consumer still requires state/local taxation.

Mea culpa… it appears I got the dates wrong (mixed up with a completely different order) so the total time from order to receipt was about 2 weeks so not too bad. While it's true I did not receive any comms on the shipment status, I want to be fair to the 9L team given I'm sure they may have been slammed (given the number of 9L drops at stockists in the past 2wks).
So please don't use my misstated experience as a detractor @BloodnThunder if you see something you like! I picked up the long-sleeve Ascension Island shirt since retailers were only carrying the short-sleeve version. The fabric is thinner than I thought it would be but the design, pattern-matching, and overall fit are all excellent.
UPDATE: Just received a message from Ian on this that addressed my situation and reinforced my faith in both the brand and the people behind it.

Thanks for clarifying @Manticore. 9L is a brand I'm a fan of so it's nice to know they got you situated.

Does anyone own the Yak leather Rider and can please comment on sizing? Going by online measurements I would need an XL but from other comments I'm thinking L.
Normally need outerwear with 18.5-19" shoulders and 43" chest.. thanks in advance guys

^ Paging @Danny RnH. He's probably the best man to answer this question.
-
@NinjaTheorist what is your weight and height? Feel free to DM me.
Do you have any other references to jackets that we sell? -
@NinjaTheorist I'd recommend the XL. I'm usually a medium, with 18" shoulders and a 40" chest, but I wear large in Nine Lives shirts, and they're still snug in the torso. I did get a medium rider's jacket, but it's tight when zipped up. I would have gone for a large if it weren't for the extra sleeve length. Since you're larger, I think XL is the way to go.

doh. And I was just about to order the Large after talking with Danny..

Sky Valley lined duck jacket
Any evo-updates on this, gentlemen @Manticore & @Anesthetist ? I like the look of this jacket, it’s quite unlike anything else.
-
I haven’t been able to wear mine in a couple months because of the weather, but it is a solid winter jacket. Mine is showing some light evo on the elbow creases and seams but is otherwise still inky black/blue.
It is definitely a quality piece and a worthwhile buy and is pretty warm with an UHF. Sizing is tricky though because of the lining and the thick lining. I sized up and couldn’t have gone true to size if I wanted to.

My favorite non-leather jacket. Just wore it yesterday to hang with @Warner and Rachel at the Foundry. It's been in the rotation on and off with a little wear/creasing on the sleeves but not much else - a very hardy outer fabric that holds it's shape and color well.
I have an XL which fits perfectly through the shoulders, chest, and arm length. The sleeves are a quite snug, especially in the forearms. I cannot wear it comfortably with a thicker long-sleeve, and I'm not even talking UHF-thick. But, given the warm lining, a t-shirt or thin long-sleeve is more than perfect. Something to keep in mind, especially if you have larger arms.

I totally agree about the forearms. The jacket is definitely tight at the elbow/forearm.

Does anyone know if the jacquard “shadow country” shirt will shrink?
I’ve got one on the way in XXL, told the chest is 46 and shoulder is 19, which will fit nice if slightly large, but if I could get an inch less in the chest and .5 in the shoulder off it’ll be perfect.
Yessir. You can definitely get some shrinkage (obligatory cold water joke here). I'd start with a hot soak and if you want to push it a little further slowly crank up a hot dry.
Hope you enjoy it!
