IHSH-177 - 18oz Selvedge Denim CPO Shirt - Indigo
-
Hi all,
Just joined this forum and just taken my first step into 'proper selvage denim' and purchased the:
https://www.ironheart.co.uk/shirting/ihsh-177.html hopefully arriving soon, can't wait!!!!Couple of quick questions:
How do you get the 'high contrast' fades and how long does this take?
I've seen a few pics on here of people wearing the shirt with much lighter colour bottoms, does the dye from the inside of the shirt run off into clothes? -
Hi and welcome to the forum!
You made a bold choice, the 18 oz are a very heavy denim Option and I personally would not dare to wear it in a Shirt. However I had it in a jacket once. It had a "normal" Fading rate, not too fast nor too slow. If you're very active in it (using it as proper workwear) I think it should fade rather fast. For high contrast fades you should avoid washing too often (which of course is not an Option if used hard i.e. working). I think denim Looks best when it's used hard and washed on a regular Basis, it also makes the fabric last much longer. Too high contrast might look too exaggerated.
And yes, if there's some friction, the bottom hem might rub off to lighter fabrics. After 2 washes this might not be the case anymore.

Ok so it's arrived and well it's um kinda "stiff"!!!!! Will need to try it on properly over a t shirt. Quality and stitching is immense.
For first few wears is it ok the wear over a white t shirt oh and will the colour rub off on a leather watch strap!!!
Just been eyeing up these https://www.ironheart.co.uk/bottoms/pihxhs.html anyone have fade pics of these??

@DemonDenimHunter the best example of fades can be seen in this post here.
The 18oz denim is awesome, keep wearing the hell out of it and it'll fade great!

It will most likely crock on to white shirts and leather, probably until it has been washed a couple of times. That is all part of the fun for some people. Crocking onto white cotton tends to come out in the wash, crocking onto leather will not.
I used to be a bit squeamish about it myself but the only fuck I have left to give where crocking is concerned is with regards to my roughout burlap Wescos. I tend not to wear new jeans with them. There is a little blue here and there nevertheless.

Cheers folks….Will replace the leather strapped watch with a stainless steel one for now then.

I used to be bothered by the denim stains on watch straps and lighter colored cotton or suede-ish sneakers, but the other day I was looking at the indigo smudges on the back of my parchment colored Chucks and realized that it actually looks great. It adds character. Maybe that's just me though.

I know what you mean, but these are kinda expensive watch straps and I love love sneaks clean. It's cool I just roll jeans up about an inch or 2 above the sneaker!!! Win win
-
Ok finally gotta chance to try it on its a beast!!! Fit is a touch snug across the back, will this shirt loosen up like jeans do as it wears in and softens up? I fear exchanging for the next size up will make the arms too long.

I second @Kasi suggestion @DemonDenimHunter… Also do the snaps at the chest pull? If not then you’ll be fine.
The denim will relax but it won’t stretch as much as jeans simply because it isn’t put under as much pressure.

On Neph's point about the buttons pulling, my chest button pulls a bit with a medium but a large is far too roomy, and since I don't plan on buttoning these up, I don't mind. I'm a short-armed broad-chested dude, so my case is slightly complicated
I have that problem with mine 25oz xhs vest like keep the button open am ok with that

Same short armed and broad chested, buttons aren’t pulling no. Just want to wear it out now but there’s bloody heavy rain for the next 2 days.

Definitely doesn’t loosen up/stretch like a pair of jeans, although the arms will come up a little as you get combs in the elbow area. You can also ask them to try and find you the one in the next size with the shortest sleeve length. I wanted to make sure I had enough room in the chest,so I just deal with the sleeves being a little long.
