It's been 7 business days since I ordered that shirt from Burg and Schild and I still haven't received it… It was shipped DHL and transferred to the Postal service. The last tracking update shows it was processed on the 8th through Frankfurt.
Is it reasonable to assume that the package is missing or stolen? It seems like I should have received it by now. Has anyone in the US ever bought anything from them before? How long did it take to get your stuff?
-
I’ve never ordered from them before but will say that DHL is a horrible carrier. Luckily, I’ve never had anything lost by them but they do take longer to deliver packages. I’d say give it another week and then check back with Burg Un Schild

Thanks. I was so happy I was able to find that shirt, and now so bummed that it seems like it is lost. I have ordered stuff from China on Ebay with free shipping and it has arrived faster.

I disagree, and think you should contact B&S tomorrow, and have them find the package, because if the package is lost they would have to be the ones to instigate a claim. Also if they have another one of these shirts in your size, possibly they could put it aside for you until this is resolved. Just my 2 cents.

I am pretty sure it was the very last one available in my size anywhere. I even had Indigofera help me track one down. I will send them an email right now.

I would say no cause for alarm yet. Stuff I send to the US can take 10 working days easily.
In think the general rule is that it is the shipper’s responsibilty until it arrives in the destinasion country so until it hits US soil you’ll deal with B&S.

I sent them an email. I guess we'll see what happens. I know next time I am going to email in advance and pay extra for something with a guaranteed delivery date.

@Filthy
Takes usually around 3 weeks shipping from Germany to the U.S. with DHL in my experience.
DHL sucks. -
@Filthy As long as it wasn't send as an express shipping, the turn around time is quite normal for stuff going from Germany to the US.
But if it was send as DHL Express it should have reached you by know. But sending with DHL Express to the US would cost probably as much as the shirt itself -
DHL Express was pretty reliable and fast in my previous experiences, the generic DHL was and still is not. Actually they're both separate companies IIRC hence the difference in quality and shipping costs. I would only start to worry if the package hasn't arrived in a month without a tracking status update. Additionally DHL could handle the package over to the US Mail and you will receive a new tracking number to track your shirt domestically. Either way the whole process will take a huge amount of time.

@Filthy Something that hasn't yet been mentioned and that I'd like to add is the fact that if your package got stuck in Frankfurt, that might be due to the customs. From my own personal experience and from the countless bad reviews on Google about the Frankfurt customs, I can tell you that the service there is not only relatively slow but also rather bad.
Nevertheless, I would've also written an E-Mail to the retailer to make them aware of this. Generally many retailers would usually claim that they have no influence on the shipping company which is true but they are, in my opinion at least, obligated to make sure that the customers get their orders and are satisfied. Which is why the least that a retailer could do would be to give the shipping company a call and make them aware of this situation as well and ask for an investigation of the whereabouts of the package.
I hope your shirt is fine and that it's nothing more serious than your package just being stuck at the customs waiting to be processed next.

Thanks. They said if I haven't received it after this week that they would look into it.

Is DHL the primary carrier in Europe? Or is UPS pretty big over there as well?

Personally, I'd say that DHL is like the McDonald's of shipping companies. It's preferred because it doesn't offer the best (product) service but because it's popular and it does the job most of the times.
UPS is a shipping company that, to my knowledge at least, does a very good job as well. Probably, so I would assume, due to the fact that they pay and treat their employees better. I'd say that it's definitely not as widely known or used as DHL is.
On a separate note, my local DHL is very efficient because it's something like a franchise of DHL. They work for DHL or they offer their services but they are a separate company.
Also I started ordering my IH stuff via the newly introduced option of DHL Express. As a result, I can comparatively say that while it took approximately five business days for me to receive my packages from Gosport to Germany via UPS, it took only three business days with DHL Express. That said, my recent order from a few days ago which is going to be delivered by DHL Express as well will have taken up four days in total this time. So the waiting time and service is irregular.

UPS is in Europe too. The quality and reach of both of them, and the end user costs, vary massively from country to country.
Both charge excessive handling fees to the reciever in Norway. This is especially outrageous of UPS as they hand over everything to the national post service as soons as a shipment beats customs. To give them their due, DHL charge for the same stupid money but are super quick in Norway and have an excellent local courier in my town.
