RAWscore - the hit or miss fit and combo space

Been a while. Need a fit check. Feels a little snug in the pits. What do you think?
Tricky… in some photos it looks great, in others a little trim. All the tell tales look good to marginal (shoulder seams, arm length, lack of button pull, are good while overall length is marginal, verging on short, but fine if you like it like that). It's the last two shots that give an impression of it being a little small to me.
-
I'm with Reuben on this one. Were it not for the last two shots, I'd say it's a great fit. I wonder if the camera lens is doing something weird in those last two.
Being right between medium and large like you, my shirts can feel a little snug in the armpit area but I prefer that slim look to the balloony alternative that comes with sizing up.
Your shirt buttons better than mine. I get a little button tug on the button right at the chest line, but I only wear it unbuttoned so I don't mind.
Are you near a Self Edge store that has both a medium and large for you to compare? I think I shared with you that I had the large for a while but it kinda felt like the shirt was wearing me and not the other way around.

Looking at the pics again, I'm going to say you should keep it, so long as it's comfortable. The last two pics are weird, the other pics look great.
However, just to put your mind at ease, if you can try out the large, do so.

Thanks for the time gents!
I agree that its borderline. I also agree with you Paul in that being a tweener, you've got to pick to lean one way or the other and for me trimmer is probably safer than looser.
Do you think the material will give a little over time? I'm thinking it will soften a bit, which will help.
At the end of the day, I'm not looking for a bespoke fit, just good enough and more trim than loose. I plan to wear this indoors in the winter rather than wearing my type 2 or 3s.
I have to find a 12 or 14oz shirt in black or OD. This cpo is crazy heavy. More jacket than shirt!

I personally think the above fit is great. I would not size up.

So I'm not a "vest person" at all but I just bought a wool vest from Filson because I really liked this one.
What do you guys think? Is this the right fit/ size for me? (Looking at you, @neph93 :D)
-
I'd say the fit looks spot on. Filson stuff tends to be sized generously so my experience has been to size down. I've read good things about their wool garments so this vest should keep you pretty warm, especially if you're using it as a base layer under a coat.

@gaseousclay @Paul9221 Thanks!
Yeah, the sizing aspect is definitely correct. I sized down to XS from my usual size of S. I bought the vest to layer under a coat and also to layer over my UHFs as I want to get more wear out of my UHFs. Not to mention of course; it looks badass layered over a wabash shirt.
To be honest, after buying this vest, I've given a serious thought to purchasing the matching Mackinaw Wool Cruiser (Alaska Fit) coat in olive green as well ::) The reviews on the Internet do mention however that it doesn't stop wind that well. I wonder if paired with my UHFs that issue could be solved?

I think a Mackinaw wool cruiser paired with a UHF should keep you pretty well insulated. I'd suggest you try the Mackinaw Cruiser on first if that's an option. I've sworn myself off of Filson jackets simply because they're cut way too big for me. I bought the Tacoma work jacket not too long ago and then sold it because it was too boxy, even though I sized down.

@doguhanca looks like the right fit as has been stated. Trim over the chest and just over the belt. I’ll be interested to see it over a flannel. How do you feel about the shirt collars?
-
I took some photos of the vest layered over the IHSH-237. I took one with the collar tucked in as well… All for the sake of science of course, @neph93
Excuse the bad lighting
Regarding your question: I actually really like showing off the collar like that. It adds a ton of character compared to tucking it in. There's something "vintage" about I'd say… Over all, I'm actually super pleased with the fit and the vest.
As said, I'm actually not a vest person and I leave the kingdom of vests to you - However this one will accompany me for many years I hope. I like the quality, functionality, looks and warmth of it a lot. I needed this for my UHFs and as an extra layer for the winter. Now..... To get or not to get the matching mackinaw cruiser coat in olive green, that is the question ::)
-
I think it looks good with the collar out
-
Great combo with the UHF colour combo and styling in all those shots. I think smaller guys also have a better chance of making that combo work when the shirt is untucked and the vest open.
The collar out thing can certainly give a vintage style. I never feel comfortable enough to be confident wearing it.

Both of these shirts are for sale on eBay and the IH forum as I simply haven't worn them enough to warrant keeping them. However, mixing the shirts up with, for example, the white Lee jacket, Iron Heart chinos and IHTB-BORN boots I am left wondering if they are keepers or not.
Any feedback would be appreciated . . . .

Two very nice outfits @den1mhead. The red one pops a little more than the brown but they both make for a fetching look. Be good for spring (or summer up here).

Cheers @neph93 I have got to agree with you that the red pops more than the brown. Reckon I may keep the red and let the brown go . . .
