IHJ-64-BLK - Horsehide Modified Type III Jacket - Black (Tea-Core Dyed)
-
@daltmeyer:
@den1mhead I did mention a few posts up this is the most abused IHJ-64 BLK I've ever seen.
-
@den1mhead Good eye!
I was gonna try to get by with just saying the jacket evo is the result of abuse. Of course there's more to it than that but I am reluctant to reveal what happened to this jacket and also one of my brown versions of the IHJ-64.
Iron Heart purists and those easily offended please look away now! Spoilers and stories of abuse ahead!
At first I liked the fit but then later decided they were slightly large and a bit poofy in places.
After some research, I experimented on the two jackets by soaking them in water for over an hour submerged, and then dried them partially in the clothes drier. Also did my XXXL brown version… Took them out while still wet and wore them dry. BUT I may have overcooked them a little. Haha. But, it made them fit better. Wanted to shrink them a little. The brown did... A lot! The black maybe a little. The result is they both fit much better. Especially wearing them as they dry works wonders for the fit.
I used Mr. Leather spray all over them as they were drying to try to re-hydrate the leather.
They also look old and well worn now. Distressed. That's the term I should use, not abused. A side effect I welcomed as it's awesome to have a couple distressed IH IHJ-64 leathers! This jacket fits perfect now and is an absolute favorite. Just perfection.

@daltmeyer thank you for the photos, this is exactly what I wanted to see…
looks like the leather is evolving very fast(also according to other pictures on the forum) and black color is pilling out quite easily.now I will try to understand if it is something that I would like to have... :-\
-
@Bulatik85 I should be more clear in the future. Mine has been artificially distressed. Normal wear and tear will not yield this amount of evo for a long time.
-
@daltmeyer I hear you buddy and I understand your hesitance in offering your explanation.
I have been caught out big time in my Belstaff Panther leather jacket whilst riding my motorbike, neither of which I own today. The jacket responded really well to the thorough soaking in terms of profile, body shape and fit. I took the precaution of allowing the jacket to dry whilst wearing it and doubt I would have had the cojones to use the clothes dryer.

I have found a picture of well worn jacket with the same type of leather and same tannery, if IH jacket will look like this after some time, this would be prefect!
I think different process of tanning, the FCL is veg/aniline tanned and has a tea core finish, the IH is chrome tanned so probably different results
-
Damn, @daltmeyer, that took some balls. I salute your willingness to roll the dice like that and I'm glad you got the results you wanted.

I may as well post a couple more in the wild distressed photos:

Hi, @daltmeyer ,
As far as I know you should own few IH leather jackets, like from this topic chrometanned horsehide type3, goatskin m65, Simon's build vegetable tanned horsehide….
Could you tell me which do you like most, from the leather point of view. Is it any significant difference between veg tanned and chrometanned leathers?
Any comments would be very helpful. -
Bulatik85 that is a great question and not an easy one for me to answer. My answer could be just the one I happen to be wearing that day as they are all incredible leather.
But if I rate them now for you it would be:
1- Blattwerk Horse hide(IHSB-WJ) Incredible smell, visual texture, and wonderful hand. Very supple. No shine.
2- Goatskin(IHM-28) Excellent visual texture, great smell, good hand. High shine.
3- Horse hide black(IHJ-64-BLK, IHJ-35) Has great smell, smooth visual texture and hand. High shine. Ages wonderfully to brown as it's teacore and reveals texture and character.
4-Horse hide brown(IHJ-64-BRN, IHJ-54) Great smell, smooth visual texture and hand at first and reveals character and texture later. High shine. Brown ages and can rub off to reveal more brown underneath.
I absolutely love this leather and color so to see it at number 4 on my list says a lot about how great all of these leathers are.
