WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY (PICS)
-
Congratulations bud.
-
Became a US citizen today…
Congratulations. Did you hold a French passport up until now?
I could take Norwegian citizenship, but until recently I didn’t really see the point as I’d have to swap my UK citizenship, the law making it impossible to hold both. That is about to change now with Norway going for a Swedish model that allows one to hold naturalised citizenship alongside that of your country of birth.

I did and I still do. How does the UK "know" if you get another passport? AFAIK, countries do not crosscheck like that. I certainly am glad I don't have to renounce my French passport, even if just for convenience's sake.
I could have done it much earlier as I got my green card in '08. It's just making official what has been de facto true for a while. My life is in the US, most of my friends are here, most of my family is here, it's my home. I'm also somewhat of a politics junkie, so it grated me not to be able to vote (though living in WA state, my vote will not matter much in Federal elections).

The UK wouldn’t know, but Norway wouldn’t give me full citizenship unless while I’m still a citizen of the UK.
I can vote locally, but not nationally in Norway, and that is my main motivation, not least because my right to vote in the UK is now limited. I do not have a permanent address there, and have not held one for twenty years. This meant voting in the Brexit referendum was prohibited.

Interesting. So they require that one renounce their previous nationality? And the applicant has to prove it themselves? That's screwed up. As I understand it, some (many?) countries don't have a path for that.

Correct. As I say, they’ve passed a las ditching that, but have yet to implement it. When they do I’ll sort it out. Tbh, since Brexit was confirmed I’d been considering swapping British for Norwegian anyway. As a practical document, the Norwegian passport will now have more use.

Hope you all have a blast and get round to solving the murder in between drinks . . . . obvs

Between me and you @den1mhead I picked the murderer card so can sit back, enjoy the beer and try to throw them off the scent

Last night the missus and I had a charity auction themed “Mad for Plaid”. Compared to past years, this outfit was a natural.
Today we took Mia out for a bike ride and some kite flying

Southern pine beetles have destroyed much of the pitch pine forest here. Beetles lay eggs under the bark and larvae tunnel through the phloem, girdling the tree. Beetles are devastating Jersey pine barrens and pitch pines north to Cape Cod and New York. They were kept in check by cold winter temps but warming winters have allowed them to extend their range.

Southerners ruin everything.
