I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE - new HBO show… Definition of bleak... There's only one ep out afaik, but I reluctantly am looking forward to more... Yeah: it's that god-dang bleak...
Jesus, if you think it's bleak…so it's a comedy?

Show is a bit grim, Eli.

Started the most recent season of Billions (S5) last night. Solid as usual.

We have Netflix and Prime and have been scouring the channels for something new to watch. I think because most TV is produced for a broad church most of it doesn't catch my imagination.
We gave Stranger Things a few watches but found it a bit too try hard 'let's do the 80s'. It's well produced, no doubt, but not for me. I'm not much of a Sci fi fan either, I have to have some based in reality… Dark, dark reality
There have been a few detective shows that we've enjoyed, and I'm thinking of giving City on the Hill a go.
@Seul recommend me something genuinely bleak dude… Requiem for a Dream, Irreversible, August Underground type bleak! That's my benchmark for bleak. Everything else is light entertainment!

@Stuart.T If you want something bleak and realistic consider watching Come and See.
-
@Palmer it's a classic. It didn't get a DVD release for a long time in the UK. Its one of those rare films that has absolutely no glorification of war, just its harsh reality.
-
HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, STALINGRAD and PATHS OF GLORY come to mind if you need a good dose of that BLEAKNESS…
Series-wise: I'm weird but BOJACK HORSEMAN sometimes gave me a good ole kick in the stomache, and so did RECTIFY...
DEADWOOD (the movie) had the saddest and most perfect death... But is only good if you were emotionally invested in the series...
I'll mull it over at work... Try and give you summat real fucking bleak...

@Seul thanks for sharing that link. I'll give it a watch when family life permits!
Lots of folks rave about ZeroZeroZero. From the synopsis I've read, I think I'd enjoy it but it's not on any of the TV streaming services we have, and I'm not exactly a tech wizard who knows much about how to rectify that. I read online forums with guidance from techie bods, it's all a foreign language to me!

Oh, wait, Homecoming s2 on Prime. Really enjoyed the 1st season, so let's see…
-
@neph93 yep, s1 with Julia Roberts (our generation's sweetheart haha, unless you liked a Wynona Ryder bad girl type… Or Bullock). Like True Detective I think S2 starts afresh with new characters.

Is that the one about the “treatment facility”. All done in a retro 80’s style? I loved that.
@neph93 we are 2 episodes in, same quirky format (no theme music, mixed aspect ratio, that Twin Peaks Lynch feel). It's good thus far.

I use prime delivery frequently so it makes sense for us. I have to say I feel the same about Netflix. Doesn't help that they have the reciprocal relationship re free/pay films.
I've used Chili a few times now. Films are generally cheaper or on par.

I’m over Netflix and could jib that too if it wasn’t for the kids. They use it a lot. We are very fortunate to get HBO Nordic in Scandinavia which seems to get the best stuff from a whole range of production companies. A lot of what shows up on Sky Atlantic shows up there, amongst other things.
