If this is not appropriate I am sorry please remove, but I'm a wreck at the moment.
My wife and I had to let our dog, Berkeley, go today. He quickly developed congestive heart failure and because the right side of his heart grew it was unable to pump efficiently. This caused the valves of his heart to leak plasma into his belly.
It will be 10 years ago tomorrow that we brought him home from the breeders and in that time we were hardly separated. The house is so quiet and the spot beside me on the couch is vacant. Like how I currently feel.
You see 8 years ago I was struck by a car and I got a traumatic brain injury and became disabled. When I got home from the hospital it was as if Berkeley knew that our relationship had changed. That we couldn't do all the things that we once did.
I am able to walk because of Berkeley. He saved the day care owner from a pitty attack and then would not let the paramedics near her. He protected my wife from an unsavoury character one night. He also defended me from an attacking 200lb St. Bernard. He helped train our puppy Emerson. He was the only dog in the history of the day care to have free roam of the place…and his nick name was the puppy-sitter.
I could go on...but as brave as he was - he was equally as kind. He would greet everyone with a big smile and a wiggle of his butt...he loved babies and children and would wine non-stop until he could give them a little kiss. He was my best friend forever.
If you've read this far thank-you and I'm sorry to have bummed anyone out, but I didn't know what else to do. Maybe give your furry friend an extra cookie for Berkeley.
Berkeley my beautiful boy may you be well, happy and peaceful. May you be free of fear and pain. You are loved.

So very sorry @QuantumMechanic

Very sad to hear this , he sounds a lot like my american bulldog. I will also give hank an extra treat today in honor of Berkley

I want to thank everyone who has reached out to me. I also want to thank everyone who gave their special furry friend an extra cookie. May I ask another favour? Maybe post a pic of them
Berkeley was such a special boy, and so is this forum. @Giles thanks for maintaining such a wonderful, engaging and polite forum.
Up until the very end, Berkeley made people smile. On our last walk, a family left a Dairy Queen, and the two little girls in the back seat saw Berkeley and pointed as they jumped up and down with big smiles. That was Berkeley, and that was his last gift to us.
This is a recent photo that my wife took when she noticed Berkeley and I stating at one another. It was one of our daily rituals.
Berkeley with his little sister Emerson.

@QuantumMechanic I am also sorry to hear of your loss. Berkeley sounds like a very special dog.

Seeing everyone's furry best friends warmed my heart this morning - so thank-you. The more photo's and stories the better as far as I am concerned.
@sabergirl you have a keen eye. Berkeley was such a smart individual and he had such a large personality that I am glad it is captured.
Thanks all for easing some of my pain.

@Giles thanks for maintaining such a wonderful, engaging and polite forum.
Quantum - that is very kind of you. The best simile I can come up with is that I regard this forum and the way it behaves as like having a dinner party at our house. I don't mind drunkenness, high spirits and bad beviour as long as it is well-meant, I won't abide rudeness or bigotry, and if anyone thinks they can do that in my house, that's the last time they are invited…
Some members (all ex), just did not get that....

I'm honored to be at the Iron Heart table, always tipsy when the good stuff is passed around but mindful never to be rude, much less to our hosts. My wife Susan and our pup Sadie, born February 2020, offer their gratitude to the great pups like Berkeley who've made it a better world time and time again.

@QuantumMechanic - I am very sorry for your loss. Your testimony is the kind of thing I read that make me want to add a dog to the existing cats… ???
