…I have a question Sir Giles, we're entering summer with high temperatures and high humidity and I'm reevaluating my staunch loyalty to the 25oz XHS offerings. Now, I've read on the forums that the 14oz jeans are not necessarily 'cooler' wearing as you would think because of the weave, my question, is what do you think/know are the weight in ounces that the typical Levi's jeans would be? I wore the 505's exclusively for about a hundred years until I found Iron Heart. Thanks, Curious George.

…@Jett129 that's exactly what I had found! They were getting whimpier and whimpier. Found IH and it was 'see ya' later'!
...@neph93 so if I were looking for a 'summer jean' weight would you steer me towards the 21oz before the 14oz? Doesn't seem right but if the weave is tight and doesn't breath in the 14oz weight I guess it makes sense. :o

Going from PBJ's last summer to IH 21oz this summer, the IH's definitely breathe more, and so far I have been able to wear them every day this muggy/hot spring so far, highest temp being about 87 with high humidity.

I was shopping with my son the other day and fingered a pair og 501’s. They were felt lighter than the shirt I was wearing….
@vaquero357 The 14oz is the only IH core denim I’ve never owned, so I can only help you with half the equation. While 21oz denim will never be linen, there is no doubt the airy weave makes them viable summer wear.
I suspect the tighter weave of the 142 denim does indeed make them sticky, but the lighter weight should mitigate that a little.
I’ll likely be sticking to 21oz during the summer, as per usual.

I move the question here as the "Ask Giles Anything" thread is more for asking me things that perhaps only I can answer…....
That said, about 13oz....

I have both weights in the 634 cut. As mentioned above, the 14 oz has a tighter weave. Once broken in there is no huge difference in higher temperatures to the 21oz. For me more important is the cut, I can't wear slim jeans when it's getting hot.

I only have the 14oz OD and 18oz vintage today, and would call the 14OD a much better summer jean than the 21, though the latter is definitely also viable from both a climate and a "feel" perspective. "Climate" meaning your junk staying cooler and "feel" meaning that when it gets warm lighter fabrics just "feel" right irrespective of climate. YMMV.

I'll chime in on the wearablity of the 21oz in warmer weather; I've worn a pair of the original 634S through multiple Texas summers and wouldn't hesitate to do so again.

…the verdict is in, I'm gonna pop this Friday for a pair of the IH-888s-142 14oz Indigo's. They look great in the photo's and I think I'll ride all through the 'hot summer in the city' in these baby's.
...might snag a pair of Khaki Chino's in the 888 cut also. Set for the summer.
...thanks everyone!

Is the IHSH-61 made of the same sateen as the M65?

Don't think so….

It's been getting hot here and I switched to my 14oz Iron Hearts today. Maybe it's just me but I definitely feel like the 14oz denims are much better in the heat than the 21oz. The 18oz vintage is good in the heat too. IMO the best hot weather Iron Heart denim is the extinct 16oz but the 14 is a close second.
-
…I chickened out on the 14oz'ers. :o My fidelity to the XHS stands! I bought a pair of the IH-727 Kahki Chinos, those along with my 502 cargos, 602 work pants and 888 ducks makes me believe I've got plenty of hot weather pants to wear. ::)
...There's only 3 months of heat a year in this neck of the woods anyway so why muck it up in the denim dept... Stay True To Your School!:D

Less heat than that up my way but I share your sentiments.

…that's a small window of warmth and sun @neph93! ??? Hard to keep the vitamin D levels up!
…serious Iron Heart country!

I just saw these and I am wondering how this is possible? How can they have a felled outseam and selvedge sewn flat on the inside?
