Iron Heart Alpaca Lined N1 Deck Jacket - Olive
We’ve long been fans of the Deck Jacket’s tank-like construction and simple, classic detailing. Iron Heart’s latest take on the N1 doubles down on its military heritage with a winter-beating Olive Drab whipcord. The luxuriously long pile Alpaca lining will make this jacket your best friend for the colder months ahead.

At first I want to applaud Rivet and Hide customer care….great guys!
May I ask if I am not indiscreet why there is a difference of 50 euros in the price of the ultra heavy flannel shirts?
I really like a shirt available in my size only on Rivet and Hide ... isn't there any discount code for forum members? Thanks in advance -
@cesco10 they’re the same price in GBP so I’d guess it’s either a brexit/tax thing or an error.

@cesco10 they’re the same price in GBP so I’d guess it’s either a brexit/tax thing or an error.
Thanks for the reply. I've sent an email to them. I have just bought 2 UHF from Iron Heart Eu (that is located in UK) and the price is 325 euro vs 375 on Rivet and Hide!
-
@cesco10 @LewisStonehouse Thanks for raising this and giving me the opportunity to explain.
Even before Brexit our Iron Heart margins in Euros were our worse across our entire brand range. This is because Iron Heart uses a USD as a base rate and their Euro price is determined by that. Our base currency is GBP (much weakened since the 2016 Brexit referendum). However, until the end of last year we still matched Iron Heart UK's Euro prices and absorbed those lower margins.
Since Brexit we pay the duty and VAT on behalf of the customer just as Iron Heart does.
The cost of doing this is significantly higher than how it worked before we left the EU.Using a UHF as an example - the Euro retail price of 325 would have accrued before Brexit 20% UK VAT - €54.16. With Brexit now a hard reality we have to pay 12% duty when we ship to the EU, higher shipping costs, and then VAT is added to not only the duty but the shipping cost as well. Broken down it looks like this:
Sale price €325
Duty €39.00
Shipping €25Total value at this stage = €389
Let's say the customer is in Sweden where there is 25% VAT that now comes to €97.25
So when we ship duties and taxes paid we pay €136.25 in duty and in fact the shipping fee is €30 because DHL like UPS charges us to process the duties and taxes payments to each EU government.
So on a UHF sale at €325 we now pay €166.25. On top of that we have to pay the wholesale price of the UHF to Iron Heart. If that item comes back for a refund we cannot claim back those duties and taxes paid. We are suddenly in serious loss on that shirt.
You may ask, therefore, how does Iron Heart UK manage to keep its Euro price lower than ours?
Three key points (I hope Giles, Paula and Alex do not mind me being so frank and open here) - Firstly, as a distributor of the brand they have slightly better margins than as a retailer like us. Secondly, we operate our online store from our 2 bricks and mortar stores in London and Manchester. The overheads are much higher than being online only. Finally, the margins for Iron Heart UK on EU sales have also been reduced significantly but as a distributor they feel duty bound to maintain volumes and not reduce their orders with Haraki. That would have wider consequences for the brand itself.I've been very open and vocal against leaving the EU Single Market and Customs Union. It is having a terrible impact on small businesses in the UK. Yesterday I was interviewed by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation about this very issue for a documentary to be shown in January marking the first anniversary of living with Brexit. The interviewer asked me why I still sell into the EU given all these costs and all the extra red-tape that it involves. My reply was the our EU customers have played a big role in the success of Rivet & Hide. Your support was a significant factor in our ability to open a bricks and mortar store in London and Manchester. I am not going to close the door to our EU customers and let Boris Johnson and the Brexit Taliban win completely. We are doing our best to keep our EU market alive but the truth of the matter is that it is costing us all a lot more. That's Brexit in a nutshell.
Footnote: if any forum member living in the EU wishes to buy from us and take care of the duties/taxes themselves we can offer you a significant discount. Just contact us via email.
-
Oh, and thanks for the considered reply, and we don't mind at "frank and open"…
Just to expand on one of Danny's points. We (IHUK) make virtually no margin on our EU business (and Haraki knowing this, gives us a rebate on all direct business into The EU).
So why do we and Haraki continue bothering to sell into The EU? As Danny pointed out, losing EU volume would have a significant detrimental impact on the volumes of orders we place on Haraki, which in turn would mean that he would place smaller orders with the workshops and factories. At the margin, that might mean that some of them close, the, as a brand, we are in deep shit.....
-
@Danny RnH @Giles I fully respect, admire, and will always support businesses that have those kind of conversations with us the customers. In my mind, most people who read this will realize you guys are in it for the long game and support you guys until something can be worked out (hopefully).
I’m impressed and want to say Thank you!
-
following up on posts by Danny and Giles - I've been working with and for UK companies for little over 20 years now. And brexit was very bad news for the rest of the EU, for many reasons, and i dont want to get all political right here, but you guys are doing amazing work. Staying stubborn and continuing working with EU market is the only right thing to do, and for sure - we as your customers recognize your dedication. there is usually only one way to do things right and giving up in this case is not.

I am sincerely grateful to Danny and all his staff for the explanation and frankness. I really want to emphasize that I absolutely did not want to accuse anyone and now I understand your point of view perfectly. I also think that facts matter more than words and so I just placed an order on Rivet and Hide.
Thanks again to Jack and Robbie and also Giles, Alex, Paula and all the guys here on the forum with whom I share the passion for Iron Heart!
A big hug from Italy
Francesco

@cesco10 Thank you for the order and no need to apologise. I did not read your post that way at all. You raised a very obvious question which I was happy to answer.
To everyone else who has commented - your understanding of the situation reflects our wider EU customer base. I anticipated a lot more kickback but the vast majority of our customers understand this difficult situation and continue to support us as and when they can. For that all of us at Rivet & Hide are extremely grateful.

Latest Winter Collection From Studio D'Artisan
Mother Earth Relaxed Tapered Jeans
Studio D’Artisan’s Mother Earth jeans call on the ancient technique of natural ‘hani’ dying. The process uses natural pigments from the soils of Australia’s Ayers Rock to impart an earthy, pinkish hue to the denim’s weft. No chemicals. No bleaching. No softening. Just solid jeans made the all-natural way to SDA’s typically exacting standards. They come in SDA's bang on Relaxed Tapered fit.

Suvin Gold Selvedge Denim Jeans
A real feat of fabric engineering, these 15oz Relaxed Tapered jeans are cut from an ultra rare and super soft ‘Suvin Gold’ cotton. The cotton’s long staple yarn and natural wax makes for a hard-wearing denim with a luxurious, cashmere-like softness.
https://rivetandhide.com/products/studio-dartisan-suvin-gold-relaxed-tapered-jeans.html
Kakishibu Loopwheeled Sweatshirt
Studio D’Artisan combines its loop wheeling prowess with its old-school dyeing techniques to create a heavyweight sweater with comfort and character in equal measure. The kakishibu sweatshirt’s unique garment dyeing process is derived from the skins of unripe persimmons to impart any earthy, autumnal brown hue. Over time, the sweatshirt’s rich tones will fade much in the way of your favourite denim.

Indigo Check Flannel Shirt
The Indigo Check Flannel from Studio D’Artisan pairs a winning fit with a knockout fabric. Cut from a heavyweight, indigo-dyed cotton flannel, the shirt boasts a tailored but not overly slim fit and a lightly faded, subtly vintage aesthetic.

Expect beautiful, high-contrast fades with continued use and abuse.
Iron Heart IH-555s-21OD Indigo Overdyed Black 21oz Selvedge Denim
