@neph93 I have immense respect for RW artistically, but if I had to pick between him and DG, DG easily wins. Waters probably falls behind DG AND RW for me.
I will admit to not being as big a fan of SB, but I should give some deeper listens soon.

@mclaincausey I can never avoid mixing the art with the artist. I'll admit to forgiving some great artists with views that are distasteful to me, while I'll despise artists I deem mediocre for the same thing. For example I worship the poet Philiup Larkin, but fucking hate Morrisey.
While RW's contribution to PF and his solo material in the 80's is iconic, his attitudes now just seem the product of a man who doesn't go to the therapy he can clearly afford.

Have always loved Pink Floyd and their Pulse tour was my favourite concert experience (and sadly my only experience with them)!! I think I was the highest I’ve ever been in my life, and didn’t smoke a thing. Outdoor concert in Toronto, and the haze was thick!
Waters made that group great and was sad to see him leave. Gilmore is very, very good, but waters made it just about perfect.
Barrett made it perfect!!
That band has influenced just about everything I love about music. Blues, jazz, big sounds, subtlety, and just pure power.
Waters on his own is just…

Morrisey with the Smiths was awesome! Everything since…
I actually never had much time for The Smiths then, although now I realise that Marr's guitar playing was great and they have some awesome songs. Morrissey I would happily travel back in time to off. Waste of oxygen imho.

When I look at the PF catalog, I see my favorites from Meddle through Animals, a childhood favorite (I was angsty) that I still love but can't hold quite in the same esteem as those previous albums today in The Wall, a thoroughly forgettable second Waters-led album in The Final Cut, and then some inconsistent Gilmour-led material that had a few gems like "Learning to Fly." When I think about all that together, the things that mostly stand out to me are Gilmour tracks and the amazing keyboard work of Wright. That is why Waters takes a back seat for me. I know he's a dick, but have not really stayed on top of precisely why he's been a dick, so while I also sometimes struggle to separate art from artist, it's the quality of the art in my case that ranks my Floyd appreciation.

Agreed. Although personal preference dictates that Animals has always been my favourite record (also Waters led), while The Final Cut has value to me. Meddle and DSOTM are just lovely, and I really enjoy the apocrypha like Saucerful and Obscured (Barret/Gilmour). Divison Bell can suck a fuck as far as I'm concerned. It's only saving grace is the keyboard noodling.

Animals is also my favorite, with Meddle close behind. Waters is my man. Gilmour's an amazing guitarist, of course, but I always felt like Roger was the beating, angsty heart of that band.
