WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY (PICS)

@tody Filson Medium Duffle in Leather. It's one of two bags that I'm taking. The other will be a small backpack for toiletries, passport, electronics, etc…
Military taught me to travel light and to only take essentials...and if I need anything during this trip, I'll be at the source.
Can't wait

Is there a Gosport trip coming up? Let me know if you'll be in Portsmouth/Southsea at all

Cool Friday brunch or after work pint then? I teach in the morning and afternoon. Although it would be great to see you Giles and Paula too, but I’ll make the trip to Gosport sometime soon for that. Hope you’re all well looking forward to another IH meet-up

Portsmouth will be new to Dennis and as an ex-navy man he may be interested in the place. So a a day trip would be good, meaning we can do either or both!

Fort Brockhurst is one of 5 similar forts strung across the Gosport peninsular, built as a defensive measure against The French attacking Portsmouth overland from the north.

It was open to the public today (there was a Christmas tat market within it), and I have been desperate to get inside ever since we have lived here, so we went.
I was truly overcome by the beauty and enormity of it, especially when you consider that all of Palmerstons other folly's were being built at or around the same time. John Maynard Keynes would have been uber-proud…..

Just in case you were wondering at what elevation the fort is...
The stables and officers quarters, plus large gun…
I'm really not sure what they are actually trying to tell me….
The large eyes that the chains retarding the recoil from the big guns are affixed to, are mounted in granite…
Small eye mounted in sandstone under the notice, so I guess this was subject to lesser force…
Small gun, not where it should be….
What I would do to have this lead tank in our garden….
Casement showing damage from a wayward WW2 German bomb, the target would have been the dockyard, not a redundant 19th century fort….
