IH-888-XHS - 25oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
…wow! Four pages back on the 'bottoms' forum site! Must be the 'grandpa cut'! :D...hence...
...picking up another cut, the 888-XHS! That'll be my 3rd pair of Iron Hearts, 634XHS, 555XHS and now the 888XHS's.
...just may retire all other jeans in my closet. This should take me down the road quite a ways in the jeans dept.
...I'll be adding to the 'People's Report Card' on these in the near future. Ciao for now.
-
…he Paul9221,
...I guess these will be the 'Goldilocks' pair! Right in the middle of the two I own.
-
…so the only thing I thought I needed now was a horse and a riding crop. The sides, above the thigh really ( top block? ), just billowed out and to say I was bummed out would be correct. Didn't make sense according to the measurements.
...decided to try and get my co-worker addicted to crack I mean Iron Heart and I was going to gift these to him just so he would see what I'm up against, well they didn't fit him at all and neither did they fit my two sons.
...I decided to just bomb them into the washer normal warm wash and threw them into the dryer like an Iron Heart sinner!! :o
...they came out perfect and I can't believe how fortunate I am to not have given them away! I think they have upstaged my XHS-555's and my XHS-634's. Though, I love them all.
…really comfortable cut! Crazy how things sometimes work out.
-
I honestly didn't think that the top block looked bad in the first pic, but agree that it looks better in the second. Super happy to hear that you like them!
…someone on the forum mentioned the term 'diaper butt' and I had a chuckle because that's kind of what they felt like but all is well now!
Thanks Paul9221!

…didn't take measurements but you can see the difference in the top block, thigh and the cuff.
...pretty pronounced. :o

Like you I have a similar journey with my pair. Made the rookie mistake of hemming a pair before trying, and the top block was a little baggy, so gave them a hot wash and now they seem great to me. Since they've seen hot water and agitation I'll look forward to vintage fades on these. After the wash and before these were no problem to button, and the denim feels super strong but not uncomfortable to wear. Pretty good already and I am sure as they flex and stretch and give to body shape they'll just get better. Happy to report that the hemming and sizing, after a wash, have turned out to work.
Here's the photo journey.

@Nkwkfld:
Since they've seen hot water and agitation I'll look forward to vintage fades on these.
So-called vintage fades are more likely to occur do to wear patterns and regular washing, and on denim with a weave and indigo dyeing technique that supports it.
As far as the latter is concerned, XHS is not likely to develop vintage fade patterns. There is heavy indigo dyeing, only a few post weave processes. This in itself promotes high contrast fading. The denim has a mildly uneven character with a lot of weft raising the warp. This encouraged pronounced vertical fading.
However if you wear a lot, but also wash a lot, this will encourage a softer more vintage fade anyway. One wash won’t make any difference.

@Nkwkfld yes they tightened up and still left you with a nice cuff!!
…a very comfortable cut!

Hi. What would be a slimmer version of the 888 XHS? I like the high rise, and I am only aware of the 555 XHS that also has the high rise but I think maybe the 555 XHS is too slim for me. So something that is in between the 555XHS and 888XHS and still maintaining the high rise cut which I like. Any suggestions?

I assume your asking about IH cuts, in which case there isn’t one. The 555 and 888 are also very different, with the 555 falling straight below the knee and having a roomy top block, while the 888 tapers all the way down the leg and has a top block which is meanongfully higher and tapers in from the yoke.
I would strongly consider sizing down in the 888 to achieve the look you want, if you are able to.

Thanks @neph93 . I see that you own the 888model. Hope you dont mind me asking about stretch. My long term fit I am aiming for in the waist is about 81.5 cm. Am I correct that a size 31 measuring waist 79.8cm raw/brand new would be my correct fit? I am hoping they will stretch to +81.5cm and then after wash stretch back to +81.5cm.

@frankie72 That should work out ok.
Depending on your frame and body shape, the XHS can be a flexible cut. I have it in four iterations (UHR, XHS, XHSib and 21oz OD). The XHS you see in this thread is the biggest. I went true to size, which to my mind means they sit comfortably and I can easily get a finger or two between the waistband and and body. The other three are sized down from W34 to W33.
The idea is that given the high rise and narrow waist on these jeans they sit higher up the body where the waist is smaller. On me this works. They were all tight in the waist when new but have stretched out. I can't quite get the finger in-between but they are not uncomfortable.
Here are a couple of pics to show how that plays out in terms of fit:
W33 IH-888-XHSib:
W34 IH-888-XHS
As you can see the silhouette is different, with the W34 coming off as a relaxed tapered pair which was what I wanted, while the w33 is closer to a slim taper (on my chunky legs).

Great answer @neph93 . I was just bout to pull the trigger on a size 31 from the ironheart uk site but sadly received a message from Adam C that they have to temporarily suspend shipments to European Union (EU) countries
Seems no other european online retailer have this model in stock so I just have to wait a while longer. But big thanks anyways for great support!
