IHM-34-ODG - Whipcord M-51 Type Field Coat - Olive
Our take on a 1950's military M-51 field coat. An era of functional garment design which has led to countless iterations since. As you'd expect, we've over-engineered the M-51, adding a cotton/wool blend blanket lining throughout with quilted sateen sleeves to an olive drab whipcord shell. Complete with YKK hardware, four snap closure storage pockets and drawstring hood/hem, we feel we've done this classic piece justice.

This is really cool. How long do you think it will be until we get fit pics of it? Can't wait to see it on someone.

Weighing up whether to go with this or an N-1. Am I right in thinking the N-1 would be the warmer of the two? Would I survive a winter up north in this with say a tee and UHF underneath?

I suppose the other question would be whether this or versions of this are likely to make an appearance in FW22 (but I guess it would revolve around how it sells). That might lean me towards this because there's always an N-1

@LewisStonehouse N1 is definitely warmer. I wore a thermal + UHF + N1 in sub zero temps in NYC for our FW19 trip and it was snug.
N1's will always be back, can't guarantee the Field Coat will appear next year though.

Is this anyway waterproof?

@spitfiredealer I think the line on whipcord is that it's weather resistant to an extent but it,ll take on water eventually if subjected to a deluge. Not sure but it might be possible to inpregnate it with wax or something, but I'd be worried about it ending up splotchu

yeah I don't want to get involved in any waxing

Managed to pick up the sample at the pop up in London.
It is an absolutely fucking spectacularly well made coat. The blanket lining is absolutely exceptional.
I also like the fact that this is not a strict repro, with the pocket placement on the chest being incredibly useful.
Couple of shit pics.
