Perhaps I'm asking in the wrong place but has IH ever made or planned to make a double black Type III which can fade or one that can both fade and has also been overdyed? I'd imagine that a 14 oz version of would give some strong 'rockstar' vibes.

There was a 526sbg—21oz black fades to gray.

…for curiosities sake I thought I would see which Type 3 out of all the Type 3's offered by IH in my size (XXXXL) had the shortest back measurement.
...it turns out that its this jacket. No wonder it's the one I purchased. (Dec. pic)

…also it seems there's a separate and older thread for this jacket, is there a difference in the two? ???

Are you thinking about the IH-9526j ? In which case, I can explain… the original series of Iron Heart type III’s were the IH-526j (21oz indigo), the IH-9526j (21oz super black), and the IH-526j-OD (overdyed 21oz). They were all very traditional designs, short length. No side pockets.
They were made extinct about three years ago. The IH-526j and IH-9526j were replaced by similar jackets but with and inch or two more length and side pockets. The lot numbers were updated with a «P» for pocket in order to differentiate.

…aahh, that's it! P for pockets! Thanks neph93!

Hi all,
Has any owner of this superb jacket noticed any stretch over time? I think it looks great on me undone with a tee shirt (which is how i'd wear it 90% of the time) but it is a squeeze to get done up.

Many thanks for the reply neph93, much appreciated. Such a lovely jacket.

…found myself eyeballing the 22oz. Indigo Type3 pocketless monster and thought Id grab my 'super black' out of the closet to get a feel for sizing...man do I like this jacket and the side pockets are huge!:D

Looks great, dude! If the 22oz has similar measurements it’s a win!
-
…@RoxRocks86 thanks Rox! Gonna 'hang loose' on the 22oz for now but you know how that goes! Great to see you're out there lurking still!

Hey everyone, been awhile since I last posted. I picked up my 9526PJ in 2020 right before the US went into quarantine lockdown. Jacket’s been thru a ton since then, wore it almost daily in 2020, then pretty sparingly the following year. It’s back on full rotation now so I’m excited to see how it continues to progress.

Hello, first time posting a question on this forum. Looking for a jean jacket for road rash protection when skateboarding at certain spots. I was all set to buy a 526Lod aka ‘cotton armor’ but it’s sold out and seems like it will be for a while. In lieu of that jacket I am considering either the 9526PJ or the 526J-22OD. I love both but wonder which of the two is more durable…this might be negligible but I’m very curious, never having handled either jacket. Seems like the weight of the denim alone is not necessarily the determining factor as with the 526Lod where the weave and dye process apparently make that technically lighter 19 oz jacket the most durable Type III denim jacket.
Any suggestions on which of these two is ‘tougher’ would be greatly appreciated. -
Any one of these jackets will, obviously, give you more protection than nothing, but maybe the 22OZ jacket would give slightly more road rash protection. If you're an All The Gear All The Time type person, then you might consider which one would be most comfortable to wear all the time.
