IH-777S-142bb - 14oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Jeans - Black/Black
-
I just picked up a pair! Rivet and Hide had a sale so I couldn’t pass them up. I’ll try to post pics soon, I’ve been slacking on that lately.
Looks like I bought mine a month or so too early. Oh well, I still really like them. I don't know what it is, but I never liked black denim until I started wearing IH. Their double-black and overdyed jeans have a real rock-star vibe to them. I plan to wear mine through the summer (in a rotation with the 777-SLB and PBJ XX-005) and will post fade pics later.
@RoxRocks86, sorry to hear about your alteration issues. They do look good, though. And I hear what you're saying about wanting slim-fitting black jeans. I couldn't imagine wearing double-black in a straight cut. At my larger size 38, that would be a 9.5-10" hem width. I'd look like the bass player from Limp Bizkit.
-
@BlueBlood You’re right about the rockstar vibe IH’s darker denims give off. Absolutely love them. Lol @ your limp bizkit reference, isn’t that style coming back tho? Can’t wait to see how you treat yours when you start wearing them.
But yeah, if they don’t fit like Ross in leather pants then they’re too baggy

Beginning week 3 in these. Still dry. Dusted them off and saw baby fades making their way.

@Giles Hej! Any idea when this denim will be restocked? This one could be more comfortable during summer compared to the BS69xSOP420.

The general concensus is that the 14oz is much less breathable than the 21oz though.

Thanks @Denimminer for the advice. I am giving the 14oz a chance nevertheless. I found my size at AiTora in Spain. Lucky me
@Mr Eddy: Thanks for the fast and great service!!!

Fit pic. This will be my daily denim during the summer. I am really excited how the denim will fade. @Alex ‘s fade pictures of his sample are very promising…
To the lucky owner of this denim @RoxRocks86 @Lowlander @BlueBlood @xtcclassic : how was the first wash? I suppose 40 degrees with no spin, right? Did anybody tried 60 degrees?
-
Great fit @Mickey GT!
Yes, my first wash was at 40 degrees C and no spin. Even so I got a tiny bit of marbling. So my tip would be to soak your pair in a bucket for some time before you put it in the washer. Popular wisdom here has it that this will prevent marbling.
Good luck!

I gave mine a hot bathtub soak with about 5 min of hand-agitation. Had a little under a half-inch of inseam shrinkage. I typically don't machine-wash my jeans, unless they're older and a good chunk of the indigo has been knocked off.
It's still chilly and rainy here and I've mainly been working on my 21 oz and 25 oz IHs. I probably won't go back to the 142bb until it warms up a bit.
-
@Mickey GT Looking great in the bb’s! I haven’t worn these since indigo invitationals started, but iirc I did get some shrink with the hottest (unsure of temp) + highest spin w/machine wash. approx. .75” inch shrink in both inseam and waist. Did a cold soaked beforehand so had no issues with marbling or crease fades. Enjoy your pair! The way black denim fades is always killer
-
Thanks a lot for your fast reply @RoxRocks86 @BlueBlood and @Lowlander - highly appreciated.
The waist could be somehow tighter and the same regarding the thigh. Not much, maybe exactly what a wash with 40 degrees C can manage - keepin' in mind that a cold soak beforehand might be a pretty good idea to avoid marbling or crease fades. Let's see… I am going to feedback here.
-
@Mickey GT you must be psychic, I just gave mine their first “wash” yesterday. I’m doing everything I can to slow fading on these as much as possible as I think black denim looks best when it is dark black with no fades. So I soaked mine in cold water with a tablespoon of salt and a cup of white vinegar as that apparently helps prevent fading. I don’t notice any fading or shrinking now that they are dry. I love this denim, I just wish there was a non-fading option.
-
@xtcclassic Impressive proof of how different personal preferences can be I can't wait until this denim fades to grey. The "deep" black is to "hard" for me. I prefer more a faded denim.
Update on my wash experiences: I gave mine a hot soak (40 degrees C) in our washing machine. It was the very first time that I carefully read the manual of our "MIELE" in order to find the perfect program/option. I decided to go with "wool": 25 minutes with only very careful agitation (like hand-agitation). No spin afterwards, but hangin' dry in the spring sun.
The result was perfect: no marbling, no fade creases. But a slightly decrease around waist and thigh - just as desired. Now the fit is perfect for me.
-
Post-soak picture: no obvious differences…

Update on my 777S-142bb. I am wearing this denim for 4 weeks now: one initial soak and one very gentle wash in the machine with 40 degrees C and no spin. After this short period of time the evolution is already obvious (in the direct sun) - it indeed "slowly" fades to grey Great jean for warmer days, by the way.
-
@Mickey GT have you been wearing these? If so, how are they fading? I have been wearing the western shirt version and love it…
-
@Oaktavia Indeed: I am wearing my BB as often as possible - 5-6 days a week for 2,5 months now. Check out the following picture:
Even though I didn't use a filter the fades look more intensive on the picture than in "real life". In normal light they are not obvious that strong. Nevertheless I am totally happy with the evo That's the reason why I have an eye on the BB shirt as well. But as I have so many IH shirts I decided not to pull the trigger…

Nice progress on those, @Mickey GT.
I put on mine for the first time in a while yesterday. They actually felt OK outside at 90 F, though I'm sure that the 25% humidity helped. I'm going to try to work them in more often going forward, and to give them regular wear after Labor Day, when I'm supposedly not allowed to wear white anymore.
