Fit checks in the Kansas City area
-
Hi,
I'm looking for a recommendation for trying on IH (or similarly-sized brands) in the Kansas City area. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I recently ordered and received IH-526V-XHS. I had ordered a medium, but changed my order to small after receiving an email from IHUK and performing measurements on an existing shirt.
The vest is perfect in length and pretty good in chest, but the waist, shoulders, and neck areas are woefully small. In particularly, the collar to the shoulder is at an angle significantly steep than my body, so there's a bunch of empty space in there. I am 5'10", 170lbs. I wouldn't quite say athletic, but I am healthy.
I'm sending the vest back to exchange for a medium, but I am considering needing a large. My understanding is the 25oz needs to be soaked, and will shrink a bit. I'd like to try some stuff on so I can get a better idea of exactly what I'll need before sending product back and forth across the seas.
Thanks

Perfect, thank you! I will go check them out right now. I’ve followed up on an email chain with you, and I will do so again after stopping by Guevel.
Thanks again

I stopped at Guevel. They aren’t carrying any IH vests, but they had a couple jackets.
I presume the one closest in fit to your vests is IHJ-507-SLB. A large was just a hair big in shoulder width and cuff length (irrelevant for a vest). In the chest and waist (especially), I wouldn’t want to go any smaller.
Does that garment compare well with the 25oz type III indigo vest? Is this jacket and the vest pre-soaked?
I intend to wear the vest as a motorcycle vest, and it probably won’t get washed beyond an initial soak.

Unfortunately, it will be difficult to compare your fit on a jacket to that of a vest. The p2p measurement always varies pretty significantly because the arm holes are in a different place on a vest. Typically the chest will be larger on a jacket if you’re just going by the measurements. You’re likely to be the same size in an iron heart vest as in a jacket, but many folks will size down one in a vest. That also depends on what you want to layer your vest with, of course.
Also, the 507 is a type II so the cut is totally different than a type III like the 526V-XHS. I’m not sure comparing your fit of that will have much bearing on what to expect.

@andywhoa tge IH-526V-XHS is sanforized, but unwashed - expect some shrinkage, possibly half an inch in both the length and Chest (P2P).
You can compare sizing of two or more products on the site, see here

I think I'm going to need to go with a large. So I'll have to send this small back.
It looks like I just order the return shipping from https://www.ironheartamerica.com/returns-shipping/ ?
